A surprising reveal at Summer Game Fest 2026 was a sequel to Until Dawn, simply titled Until Dawn 2.

The first game in this series came out in 2015, and its sequel is launching after a twelve-year wait. Before the sequel, developer Ballistic Moon updated the original game with a remake available on PC and PlayStation 5.

The next game in the series is being made by Firesprite, a PlayStation Studio that Sony recently bought. This has caused some worry about whether Firesprite can successfully build on the strengths of the original game.

When is the Until Dawn 2 release date?

Until Dawn 2 is set for 2027, with no specified timeframe or window.

We’re expecting the game to launch between spring and summer of 2027, which makes sense considering its tropical island theme. Plus, it nicely complements Sony’s existing games.

The game will probably be exclusive to PlayStation 5, meaning it won’t be released on PC. Recent reports from Bloomberg suggest Sony is shifting away from releasing games on PC.

Until Dawn 2 story details

Until Dawn 2 tells a brand new story featuring an all-new group of characters. They’re a team of paranormal investigators who travel to a tropical island to film an episode of their spooky TV show, which airs on the Dead True channel.

The problem is, everything scary they’ve experienced so far has been staged. But now, for the first time, they encounter real ghosts and genuine danger, and they’ll need to fight to survive until morning.

Fans can expect to see Hayden Panettiere reprise her role from the original game in the remake of Until Dawn, following a post-credits scene hinting at her return. Peter Stormare has also been confirmed to reappear, with a quick glimpse of him in the reveal trailer.

Okay, so from what I’ve seen, Until Dawn 2 looks like it’s going to play a lot like the first game, which is awesome! Basically, your choices really matter – anyone could live or die, and it’s not just big decisions either. You’ll be making split-second choices in the heat of the moment, like you see in the trailer, but also long-term choices that affect everything as you play through the story.

Firesprite explains on the PlayStation Blog that they’re staying true to what made the original game great – focusing on compelling characters, difficult decisions, and truly scary moments.
