Vince Vaughn Explains Why Wedding Crashers 2 Is Delayed Despite Early Talks 5 Years Ago

Vince Vaughn discusses why the party could still be on in Wedding Crashers 2.

The popular comedy Wedding Crashers, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, was released on July 15, 2005. The film centers around two divorce mediators who crash weddings to have fun, enjoy free drinks, and meet women. Directed by David Dobkin, it’s considered a classic comedy from the 2000s and earned $288 million globally, despite costing only $40 million to make.

While talking about his new movie, Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, Vaughn mentioned he’d consider making a sequel – but only if the story was compelling. He explained that people have talked about it before, and he’s open to revisiting the project if they can come up with a truly great idea, rather than rushing into it. He emphasized that any sequel would need to stand on its own as a good story, but he’d enjoy working with the cast again if everything fell into place.

Based on what people involved have said, the delay is likely due to two things: difficulties coming up with a good story and problems with everyone’s schedules. The cast has consistently emphasized the importance of a fresh and compelling narrative, and they’re being careful because the first movie was so successful. The team wants to make sure the sequel lives up to expectations.

Several other actors share Vaughn’s optimism about a potential sequel. Isla Fisher, who played Gloria, told E! News they’ve had discussions about it and are hopeful for a reunion. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live!, Fisher suggested the project might be waiting on Owen Wilson’s availability, but confirmed that both director Dave Dobkin and Vince Vaughn are interested in revisiting the film. She feels all the necessary elements are in place.

In a recent Variety interview, Owen Wilson explained that when a project feels right, the team focuses on making something worthwhile. He said it’s about finding a strong idea and believing they can execute it well.

Scheduling issues also caused problems. In 2021, while a Haunted Mansion remake was in the works, Owen Wilson signed on for season 2 of Loki and Ben Vaughn committed to Apple’s Bad Monkey. Around the same time, Puck News reported that Wedding Crashers 2 was ultimately cancelled despite being close to completion.

A sequel to Wedding Crashers hasn’t been officially confirmed, but it’s still a possibility. While there’s been talk and some hopeful signs from the actors, including recent comments from Vince Vaughn, the project is currently in the very early stages and hasn’t been given the go-ahead yet. It all depends on finding the right story and getting everyone’s schedules to align.
