After appearing in a leak online, Sega officially revealed Virtua Fighter Crossroads at Summer Game Fest. The game, previously known as the New Virtua Fighter Project, is being developed by RGG Studio and is set to release in 2027. It features impressive graphics, and a new trailer provides more details about the game’s story.
The story unfolds in a fresh city, attracting fighters from all walks of life eager to compete. One fighter is caught up in trouble with the Chinese mafia and is forced to fight for his life, even ending up in battles within restaurants. Luckily, he’s rescued by a seasoned Pai Chan fighter, a familiar face from past games.
Based on what we’ve seen, she might become his mentor and help him improve his kung fu skills. It’s a surprisingly dramatic presentation for Virtua Fighter, but it’s actually quite good. Now we’re wondering how this new direction will affect the other characters in the game.
RGG Studio hasn’t announced which platforms the game will be on yet, but they’ll be sharing more details during the Virtua Fighter Crossroads Showcase at 5 PM PDT, right after Summer Game Fest. Keep an eye out for updates on the evolved gameplay and what’s new in the game’s setting!
