As a huge Marvel fan, I remember being totally shocked during *Avengers: Age of Ultron* when Vision just… picked up Thor’s hammer! It happened so casually, while everyone was arguing, and it was a real ‘wait, what?’ moment. The whole thing with Mjolnir being only liftable by the worthy is a big deal, so seeing Vision do it instantly made the Avengers – and us viewers – start to trust him. It was a smart move, because Vision definitely proved himself a hero later on, especially with that incredibly selfless sacrifice against Thanos. It’s a scene that still sticks with me!
Vision’s fate was tragic, as he was destroyed by Thanos – though the heroes eventually reversed that loss. While Wanda created a version of him in Westview, it wasn’t the same. Instead, we got a new, different Vision known as White Vision. This new version may have some of his old memories, but he’s not the Vision fans are familiar with, which raises a big question: is he worthy enough to lift Thor’s hammer? Even Paul Bettany, the actor who plays Vision, doesn’t know the answer, but he’s hoping to find out.
Bettany admitted he didn’t know the answer to the question, and even suggested it might be better if it remained unknown. However, he expressed interest in discovering whether the person in question still deserved recognition. He added, “That’s so good.”
Why Could Vision Lift Mjolnir Anyway?
Ever since Vision lifted Mjolnir in *Age of Ultron*, MCU fans have wondered *why* he was able to. The surprise moment not only helped the Avengers accept him, but it suggested Vision possessed a quality that made him worthy. When he first appeared, he seemed genuinely selfless and pure. His later actions proved this wasn’t just a fluke; Vision consistently prioritized the well-being of others, even making the ultimate sacrifice in *WandaVision* to convince Wanda to end her reality-altering hex.
It’s possible White Vision could prove to be worthy, just like the original Vision. Although this new version, rebuilt from Vision’s remains, is currently very different, Vision did manage to restore his memories. This restoration might have also brought back the qualities that made the original Vision worthy. The trailer shown at New York Comic Con hinted at this, depicting White Vision grappling with his memories and identity. This journey of self-discovery could ultimately reveal that he, too, is worthy.
VisionQuest is expected to debut in 2026 on Disney+.
