I’m so excited to hear that Hugh Bonneville is coming back as Ian Fletcher! I absolutely loved him in the role, and the idea of him navigating the chaotic world of international football ahead of a huge event sounds incredibly funny. It’s going to be brilliant seeing what trouble he gets into in Twenty Twenty Six!
This new show follows the storylines of Twenty Twelve and W1A, both comedies focusing on the Olympics and the BBC, but its creator, John Morton, says it will be a very different experience.
In a conversation with TopMob, he shared that the new series needs to be immediately engaging for viewers who haven’t seen the earlier installments, saying it “has to work out of the box, fresh.” He also expressed his hope that Twenty Twenty Six will be the strongest game in the series so far.
Creating a TV show is incredibly challenging, so if you’re dedicating yourself to a project that will consume your life and cause significant stress, you really need to believe it will be an improvement over your previous work, he said.
Want to know what’s happening with the new series of Twenty Twenty Six? Here’s everything you need to know about watching it on BBC Two and iPlayer.
Twenty Twenty Six release date

Twenty Twenty Six will premiere on BBC Two and iPlayer at 10pm on Wednesday 8 April 2026.
From that date, all episodes will be released on iPlayer as a complete series, so you can binge-watch to your heart’s content.
Twenty Twenty Six plot: What is it about?
Twenty Twenty Six follows Ian Fletcher (Hugh Bonneville) as he starts a new job with the organization in charge of international football, just as they begin planning a huge World Cup tournament to be held across three different nations.
Those paying close attention will see echoes of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and is playfully mocked in this piece.
Ian is now the Director of Integrity in Miami, Florida. His job is to manage a somewhat chaotic team and prevent internal conflicts. We wish him the best of luck!
Twenty Twenty Six cast: New and returning

In 2026, Hugh Bonneville and Hugh Skinner will return as their characters from W1A: the stressed-out executive Ian Fletcher and his clumsy assistant, Will Humphries.
The supporting cast features entirely new characters, which helps emphasize how lost and uncomfortable Ian feels in his new and unfamiliar work environment. They represent a diverse range of jobs and personalities.
The cast features Alexis Michalik as the smooth and cunning Eric Van Dupuytrens, Chelsey Crisp as the energetic Sarah Campbell who champions sustainability, and Paulo Costanzo as the assertive Nick Castellano.
Erin Kellyman, Joe Hewetson, and Marli Siu play a hilarious trio of new social media managers, joined by Nick Blood, Jimena Larraguivel, Stephen Kunken, and Nicole Sadie Sawyerr, who complete the main cast.
The project’s story will once again be told by the smooth, pleasant voice of David Tennant.
