In a detailed explanation, Deja discussed how several villains were conceptualized and their actions portrayed. Gaston was modeled after certain muscle-bound men admiring themselves in LA gyms mirrors. Deja also highlighted Scar’s human-like expressions, skillfully animated through paws, to convey emotion while maintaining the character’s animal identity throughout.

It’s mentioned that designers visited Paris and Barcelona for a closer look at Art Nouveau and Modernisme architecture. They explained how intricate, wavy lines in these structures create an enchanting yet eerie atmosphere. Disney Imagineers refer to this approach as “Enchanted Architecture,” which is a design style suggesting that extraordinary buildings seem to be conjured by magic rather than built by craftsmen.

The color palette includes rich, gem-like hues, reminiscent of stained glass and ironwork, to encapsulate each villain’s unique style. Instead of designing the landscape around individual characters, the Imagineers are integrating various design elements into a harmonious atmosphere, drawing inspiration from diverse sources simultaneously.

Attractions and Thematic Scope

The land is anticipated to showcase two primary draws, in addition to dining and shopping zones inspired by villainous characters. As of now, the specific ride ideas are undisclosed, but it will house a total of thirteen villains such as Maleficent, Ursula, Jafar, Captain Hook, Cruella de Vil, and the Wicked Queen.

Closures and Construction Activity

In order to facilitate the upcoming expansion, Disney permanently shut down several well-known attractions on July 7, 2025. These included the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, the Liberty Square Riverboat, and the Frontierland Station of the Walt Disney World Railroad, which was temporarily closed for construction purposes. The last day these attractions were operational was July 6th.

Immediately following the shutdowns, land was gradually cleared out. Now, new staging grounds and storage yards can be found in the area that previously housed Rivers of America, serving not only Villains Land but also the expanded Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park.

In February 2025, Disney was granted an essential environmental permit by the South Florida Water Management District. This permit allows for construction activities such as grading, demolition, and drainage on over 300 acres of land. The permit is effective until February 17, 2030.

Timeline and Outlook
