One last Star Wars series is coming in 2025, with the first episode already released. 2026 promises even more, with several new movies and shows planned. But even right now, the franchise still has some surprises in store for fans.
A new animated series called Star Wars Minis is coming to the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel. StarWars.com revealed the show will run through 2025 and into early 2026, making it the first Star Wars content scheduled to debut next year.
Star Wars’ official social media accounts shared a trailer for the new series, showcasing updated versions of iconic scenes from the franchise’s past. The trailer features clips of moments like Anakin Skywalker’s podrace in The Phantom Menace, the Ewoks’ speeder chase on Endor in Return of the Jedi, and Din Djarin and Grogu’s adventures in The Mandalorian, along with insights from the creators.
The show is created using a unique blend of stop-motion animation and motion capture technology. The trailer showcases how the shorts are made, revealing the team capturing still images of redesigned characters. These images are then used in conjunction with actors wearing motion capture suits, who perform scenes spanning the 48-year history of Star Wars.

In 2025, Disney and Lucasfilm will conclude their new releases with Star Wars Minis. This will be the fifth new show or series of the year, following the finales of Skeleton Crew, Season 2 of the critically acclaimed Andor (their most successful project so far), Season 3 of Young Jedi Adventures, and Tales of the Underworld.
What Happens in Episode 1 of Star Wars Minis

As soon as they announced Star Wars Minis was coming out, Lucasfilm and Disney dropped the first short right on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel. And it was awesome – they kicked things off by revisiting a classic moment: the trench run from the original Star Wars movie, Episode IV: A New Hope from 1977. As a huge fan, seeing that scene reimagined was a really cool way to start the series!
In a festive twist, a nearly two-minute video shows Luke Skywalker’s iconic run through the Death Star trench – but everything, from the scenery to the characters, is made of gingerbread! It’s a holiday-themed reimagining of the classic scene. (You can find more Christmas movies to stream here.)
Okay, so the special effects weren’t exactly realistic, but it’s still awesome! Instead of those cheesy laser blasts, Luke gets a crucial assist from Han Solo just in time. He manages to hit the Death Star’s weak spot – and honestly, it looked like he was shooting candy! Then the whole thing just… explodes. It wasn’t a realistic explosion though, more like a giant gingerbread house crumbling into smaller cookies, with this frosted ring spreading outwards. It’s a bit silly, but it totally works for me!
Okay, so the new Star Wars animated shorts are starting off strong. The first one? It’s adorable! We get little cookie versions of Luke, Han, and Chewie recreating that celebratory moment from A New Hope. And honestly, it got me a little choked up when Obi-Wan’s voice – sounding exactly like Alec Guinness – delivers that classic line, “Remember, the Force will be with you, always.” While I don’t have the full lineup yet, this first short promises a really fun series of animated retellings of some of Star Wars’ most memorable scenes. I’m already excited to see what they do next!
