This year, the DC Universe made a strong impression with hits like Superman and the second season of Peacemaker. But before those arrived, the new direction for DC on screen actually started in December 2024 with the animated series Creature Commandos. This show follows a unique black ops team made up of classic DC monsters. Just like the live-action shows, Creature Commandos was a critical success (earning a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), proving the exciting potential of DC Studios. Now, while fans eagerly await season two, they have a special opportunity to rewatch the first season.
DC announced on Threads that the entire first season of Creature Commandos will be available to stream for free on YouTube next week. You can watch it on the official DC YouTube channel. They’re hosting two marathon viewings: the first is December 22nd from 1 PM to 7 PM, and the second is December 23rd from 3 PM to 9 PM. Keep in mind, though, that these are live streams, so you won’t be able to watch episodes whenever you want.
The Creature Commandos Marathon Caps off a Strong First Year for the DCU

It’s amazing to think a year has already passed since Creature Commandos first came out! The DC Universe has been incredibly busy, with lots of exciting releases and announcements, including the upcoming film Man of Tomorrow. That makes now the perfect time to watch Creature Commandos again – or for the first time! – and remember how it all began with the animated series. With all the success the DCU has had this year, it’s a great moment to look back and celebrate.
It’s great that DC is offering Creature Commandos for free on YouTube. While most DC fans likely already have HBO Max, this gives those without a subscription a chance to watch the series. The challenge will be finding time to watch it during the busy holiday season – maybe people will spread it out over a couple of days, watching some episodes one day and the rest another.
As a fan eagerly awaiting more from DC’s new universe, I’m enjoying this little bridge to Season 2 of Creature Commandos. We know another season is happening, but it’s still a ways off – the showrunner mentioned back in February they were speeding things up, but animation takes time! Realistically, I don’t expect to see it until late 2026 or even 2027. That’s a considerable wait, thankfully DC is keeping Creature Commandos on our radar, and smartly reminding us it’s where this whole new DCU story officially begins.
We’re hoping the marathon does well and attracts a lot of viewers. While Creature Commandos isn’t as well-known as shows like Superman or Peacemaker, it deserves a large audience. Like many projects James Gunn touches, Creature Commandos successfully combines bold humor with well-developed characters, giving the new DCU a great start. Superman will be the true test of mainstream appeal, but Creature Commandos shows that Gunn’s vision for the DCU is promising and worth anticipating.
