We Think We’ve Figured Out Why Spider-Man: Brand New Day Has So Many Villains

The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to be packed with villains, likely due to the success of No Way Home. While previous Spider-Man movies in the MCU typically focused on a single main villain, No Way Home brought together a team of villains from different universes. Now, rumors suggest Brand New Day will take that even further, potentially featuring a wide range of Spider-Man’s enemies.

Okay, so we know Spider-Man, The Punisher, and Hulk are going to be in Brand New Day, which is awesome. But man, the rumor mill is working overtime with potential villains! Everyone’s buzzing about Scorpion, Tombstone, Boomerang, Jackal, 8-Ball, even The Hand… basically a whole rogues’ gallery. We haven’t gotten official confirmation on any of them, and honestly, it was a mystery why they’d even be in the movie. But I just watched Wonder Man, and I think it might have dropped a big hint about what’s going on!

Damage Control Could Be Behind Brand New Day’s Many Villains

The Department of Damage Control (DODC) is a significant presence in the Wonder Man storyline, and their role could expand in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In Wonder Man, the DODC shows they see people with superpowers as valuable resources, potentially using them to neutralize other heroes or villains considered dangerous. They are interested in Simon (Wonder Man) as a powerful asset, but he’s likely not the only superpowered individual they want to recruit.

There’s talk that the Department of Damage Control (DODC) might be targeting Sadie Sink’s character in the upcoming film Brand New Day. The story could focus on their chase after her, with Spider-Man somehow involved. Many believe the New York office of the DODC will be led by Tramell Tillman’s character, who may be fighting against mutants and people with superpowers based on their beliefs.

Given Spider-Man’s abilities and the fact that Sadie Sink’s character seems equally strong, the movie likely involves Damage Control having trouble capturing her. To help with the chase, Damage Control might deploy some of their resources, potentially including lesser-known villains from the Spider-Man comics as members of their team.

Bringing back Scorpion as a character feels natural, especially considering his introduction in Spider-Man: Homecoming. In the comics, Scorpion starts as a detective hired by J. Jonah Jameson to find Spider-Man, and later gains powers through experimentation. Instead of Jameson hiring him, the MCU could use the Department of Damage Control for this purpose, while still keeping the core of his origin story intact.

This is a clever way to bring lesser-known villains into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Characters like Jackal and Boomerang are unlikely to ever be the main threat in a Spider-Man film, so including them as part of a larger group of bad guys gives them a role and satisfies fans.

No Way Home’s Spell Makes Spider-Man The Perfect DODC Target

The Department of Damage Control is likely focused on Sadie Sink’s character, but Spider-Man could actually be a valuable help to them. Before the events of No Way Home, the DODC wouldn’t have considered Spider-Man a threat. He was a trusted ally of the Avengers and a beloved hero. Going after him then would have damaged the DODC’s reputation, making them seem like they were on the same side as someone like the often-incorrect J. Jonah Jameson.

Currently, Peter Parker’s identity is a secret. People have likely forgotten his involvement with the Avengers, leaving him operating like any other local hero. Because of this, the Department of Damage Control is now paying attention. If he gets in the way of their pursuit of Sink’s character, they might see him as a problem and start actively hunting him.

Spider-Man is a remarkably strong hero within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which makes him a prime target for the Department of Damage Control (DODC). They might try to sway public opinion against him through propaganda, potentially mirroring his often-unfavorable portrayal in the comics. Both official authorities and supervillains could create significant challenges for Peter Parker, leading to a difficult situation, much like the storyline in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
