Wednesday Season 3’s Dream Tim Burton Reunion Is Better Than a Sequel to His $452M Hit

As a huge fan of Wednesday, I’m so thrilled to hear Season 3 is officially happening! It’s especially exciting knowing how important this show is for Netflix now that Stranger Things has ended. Of course, Jenna Ortega will be back as Wednesday, which is fantastic, but I’m really intrigued by the new cast members – especially those who’ve worked with Tim Burton before. It sounds like they’re really building something special!

As a huge fan of Tim Burton and the Wednesday series, I was thrilled to hear about the new cast joining Season 3! Eva Green is coming on board as Ophelia Frump, which is fantastic – she’s brilliant in everything from Dark Shadows to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. And it’s great to see some familiar faces returning to work with Burton again, like Chris Sarandon and Noah Taylor. But honestly, the biggest news for me is Winona Ryder’s return! She’ll be playing a character named Tabitha, and seeing her back in a Burton project is just amazing. Along with them, Kennedy Moyer and Oscar Morgan are joining as Daisy and Atticus, and rounding out the new additions is Chris Sarandon as Balthazar and Noah Taylor as Cyrus. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together!

Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega & Tim Burton’s Wednesday Reunion Beats Beetlejuice 3

I’m so excited about Winona Ryder joining the new Burton project! It’s incredible to think this will be her fifth time working with Tim Burton, following classics like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Frankenweenie, and the recent Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Plus, it’s great to see her back with Netflix after Stranger Things, and I absolutely love that she’s reuniting with Jenna Ortega – she played Astrid Deetz’s mother in the first Beetlejuice, which was fantastic!

Although we don’t yet know exactly what Winona Ryder’s role will be, the news is already generating a lot of excitement. Ryder often shines in quirky, unconventional roles, and those qualities seem tailor-made for Tim Burton’s dark, fantastical worlds – and this project will likely be no different. She was a natural choice for the part (and many fans previously imagined her as Ophelia, before the role went to another actress), and it’s going to be fantastic to see her performance. It will also be a treat to watch her work alongside Jenna Ortega, who shares a similar energy. Their chemistry was excellent in Beetlejuice 2, and hopefully, they can bring that same magic to the new Netflix series.

Following the strong performance of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theaters, discussions about a third film have continued. Warner Bros.’ CEO announced in April 2025 that another sequel was being considered, but director Tim Burton later stated (according to The Hollywood Reporter) that he hadn’t been informed and wasn’t certain he’d participate. Jenna Ortega, however, indicated she would only return if Burton was involved.

While Warner Bros. might be tempted to make a third movie, it’s probably best they don’t. The sequel was successful, but another installment could easily miss the mark. The second film had a thought-provoking ending with Astrid still struggling, and it beautifully concluded the story of the Deetz family – a perfect place to leave it.

The prospect of Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder working together again in Season 3 of Wednesday, directed by Tim Burton, is really exciting. It would let them build on the chemistry they had in Beetlejuice while also exploring fresh ideas. Wednesday still has a lot of potential for growth, and Ryder’s involvement makes this direction much more appealing than simply making another Beetlejuice movie.

The third season of Wednesday is currently being filmed, and the first two seasons are available to watch on Netflix. You can stream Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on HBO Max.
