Wednesday Villain Makes Bone-Chilling Season 2 Return

heads up: The following article includes descriptions of gruesome injuries, frightening creatures, and psychotic murderers. Additionally, there may be some spoilers for the initial four episodes of season two of ‘Wednesday‘. Proceed with caution if you prefer to avoid such content.

Villains are like bad fashion trends—they always come back.

Indeed, this scenario applies to Ms. Marilyn Thornhill, alias Laurel Gates, who was superbly portrayed by Christina Ricci during the first season of Wednesday. However, the conclusion of the series left viewers uncertain about Laurel’s fate, as she was observed in a weakened state and surrounded by bees at the end. Yet, in season two, it is disclosed that she is still alive, though her condition might not be ideal.

To recap, Laurel assumed the identity of Ms. Thornhill during her mission to revive the mad Pilgrim Joseph Crackstone, while simultaneously playing the role of Tyler Galpin’s (Hunter Doohan) superior and overseeing his transformative creature, the Hyde.

However, following her defeat at the hands of Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams in the season finale, it becomes apparent in season two that Laurel had previously been incarcerated and later transferred to the Willow Hill Psychiatric Facility, a sanctuary for those cast aside, which also houses Tyler.

In the belief that Laurel, being the embodiment of Tyler’s Hyde form, could potentially help with his recovery process, Dr. Rachael Fairburn (played by Thandiwe Newton) arranges for Laurel to be moved to the facility.

However, the specifics of what occurs when the master and the beast meet again is something only viewers can discover by watching part one of the second season of Wednesday, which is currently available to stream on Netflix.

In the initial moments of season two, another character’s destiny was unveiled – that of Xavier, a peer from Nevermore Academy, who by the end of season one, had chipped away at Wednesday’s stoic demeanor.

Following the broadcast of season one, accusations of misconduct were levied against actor Percy Hynes White, which he firmly rejected. Despite Deadline reporting that Percy was offered a chance to rejoin for season two, the character Xavier ended up being removed from the series instead.

Instead of “He was, however, given a closing arc,” you could say “His storyline reached its conclusion.” And instead of “In the first episode of season two, it’s revealed that Xavier’s father has transferred him to Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland, angry his son was falsely accused of being the Hyde,” you could say “At the start of season two, we learn that Xavier’s father moved him to Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland due to a misunderstanding that labeled Xavier as the Hyde.” This way, it is more clear and easier to read.

Xavier, who isn’t present in the episode, sends a farewell token to Wednesday instead – a painting of a single-eyed raven and a heartfelt letter.

Although Xavier doesn’t show up in the episode, he gifts Wednesday something special before leaving – a picture of a one-eyed raven and a letter saying goodbye.

On Wednesday, Enid (Emma Myers) read from the letter, “I sent messages, but maybe you misplaced the phone I provided.” She then added, “This serves as my farewell present. A mental picture popped into my mind unexpectedly. I can’t explain how or why, but it seems to be linked to you. As Wednesday Addams, isn’t it fitting to have a mystery to unravel?
