What Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Galactus Looks Like Without His Helmet Officially Revealed

Recently released images offer a first official look at Galactus in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, highlighting how impressive this new Marvel Cinematic Universe villain will be. Ralph Ineson will portray the planet-eating Galactus in 2025, bringing a version of the character true to the original 1966 Marvel Comics to the big screen after 59 years. While the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer presented Galactus as a cosmic cloud – a controversial choice – Marvel has now given him his classic helmet and armor in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Seeing Galactus in his classic comic book look in The Fantastic Four: First Steps was a highlight for many fans. However, concept art recently shared by Marvel Studios’ Head of Visual Development, Ryan Meinerding, reveals we almost saw an even more detailed version of the villain. Meinerding explained that while this version wasn’t used in the film, they explored designs inspired by the comics that showed Galactus’ entire face. These images offer a closer look at the character’s skin, features, and how he’s connected to the technology within his helmet, providing a new perspective on the antagonist.

What is Galactus’ MCU History in The Fantastic Four: First Steps?

Okay, so we haven’t gotten a deep dive into Galactus’ origins in the MCU yet, but what little they’ve shown us lines up pretty closely with the comics. Basically, he wasn’t always this cosmic being. He started as a regular guy named Galan, from a planet called Taa. The MCU version says he was just a normal human who somehow gained this incredible power – the Power Cosmic. This power changed him, making him grow to an enormous size and letting him tap into abilities we can barely imagine. Now, he’s become this universal force of balance, but it’s a weird kind of balance. He travels the cosmos and… well, he eats planets. Seriously! He needs to consume entire worlds to feed his endless hunger and absorb their energy. It’s a heavy concept, but it explains why he’s such a massive threat.

Galactus’ armor isn’t just for protection – it’s how he eats. He destroys planets using his ship, Taa II, breaking them apart and melting them into a liquid he absorbs through tubes on his back. This almost happened to Zenn-La, but Shalla-Bal (Julia Garner) became his herald, the Silver Surfer, to save her people. Initially, Galactus planned to devour Earth, but he then discovered Franklin Richards, who also possessed immense cosmic power, and saw him as a potential successor.

Galactus hasn’t appeared in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) storyline yet. The version we saw in The Fantastic Four: First Steps came from a different universe (Earth 828). Although he survived the events of that film—Sue Storm and Shalla-Bal sent him through a teleportation bridge—his current location is a mystery. This means Galactus could return in future MCU movies, potentially from either Earth 828 or our main MCU Earth (Earth 616).
