What Happened to Tyreek Hill? Breaking Down the Gruesome Knee Injury

Tyreek Hill isn’t letting his injury intercept his positive attitude.

During the third quarter of the September 29th game against the New York Jets, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver was seriously injured and had to be removed from the field on a cart. The injury occurred when he was tackled after making a catch while going out of bounds. It was a visibly severe injury, with his leg twisted awkwardly. He was immediately transported to the hospital, and according to NBC Sports, referencing Adam Schefter of ESPN, doctors confirmed he had dislocated his knee and suffered a torn ACL, along with damage to other ligaments.

However, throughout the traumatic experience, Tyreek kept a smile on his face.

Honestly, I was incredibly impressed by his attitude after such a tough situation. As Mike McDaniel – the Dolphins head coach – shared with reporters after the game, he was probably in the best spirits of anyone I’ve *ever* seen go through something like that. He immediately looked at everyone and said, ‘I’m good, just make sure the guys get this win.’ It was amazing – his focus was entirely on the team, not himself. It really showed his character, and I think that speaks volumes.

Miami won the game against the Jets with a final score of 27-21. Coach McDaniel noted that this level of performance has been typical for the 31-year-old player.

He explained that they discussed Tyreek’s activities during the offseason. A key part of that has been him leading by example and building strong relationships with his teammates. He used those connections to help the team succeed and finish strong.

Working well with others has significantly benefited the organization, particularly now as they start the season with a positive first win. It’s really made a difference as they move forward.

I believe my influence on the team has been huge,” McDaniel stated, adding that he was still playfully interacting with his teammates after what happened. “I think many players were motivated to play even harder because of his comments.ā€

He added, “He was inspiring in that situation, and I think his teammates benefited from that.”

As for Tyreek, he shared a message to his fans before heading into surgery to repair his knee.

ā€œPlease remember my son in your thoughts and prayers,ā€ he said in a video posted to X on September 30th, after letting everyone know about his upcoming medical procedure. ā€œYou’ve all been incredible. The fans, the country, and the entire NFL have been amazing – I know you’re sending me lots of love and prayers. I’m truly honored – considering the circumstances – but I love you all very much and I hope to be back soon.ā€
