What Norway Soccer Star Erling Haaland Has Shared About His Diet

Erling Haaland made a strong start to his World Cup career with two goals in Norway’s 4-1 win against Iraq on June 16. The game, played at Boston Stadium, marked Norway’s first World Cup victory in 28 years.

“It feels good, and I’m proud,” Haaland said to reporters after the match, according to FIFA. He added that he was incredibly proud to make his World Cup debut and secure the win for Norway.

Haaland seemed thrilled with the result, noting his second goal was even better than the first. He expressed his pride in the team’s strong start, saying he hoped the victory would bring joy and celebration to people in Norway.

Playing in the World Cup has been a long-held dream for Haaland since joining the Norwegian national team in 2019, and he’s been focused on optimizing his nutrition to perform at his best.

In a recent interview on the Man City podcast, forward Erling Haaland shared his surprisingly simple secret to peak performance: real food. He explained that he focuses on eating whole, unprocessed foods with as few ingredients as possible, noting that there’s an abundance of overly processed options available today. He believes prioritizing real, quality ingredients is key. Haaland emphasized the direct link between diet and athletic ability, stating, “The better food you eat, the more you’ll get out of it – and the better your performance will be.”

Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with finding out everything about what Erling Haaland eats, and I finally dug up his daily routine! First thing, like a normal person, he has coffee. But it’s not just any coffee – he actually calls coffee a ‘superfood’! He says it all comes down to quality and timing. And get this – he sweetens it with maple syrup and drinks it with raw milk! He swears by the benefits of raw milk, but honestly, even though I’m a huge fan, I did a little research and apparently health experts warn it can be risky because of bacteria. Still, it’s what Haaland does, so… fascinating!

Along with his java, the 25-year-old enjoys sunny side up eggs and sourdough bread for breakfast.

He plans to have a straightforward lunch, like egg fried rice with seabass and asparagus. He emphasized that good nutrition doesn’t need to be complicated. The video also showed him enjoying a delicious and healthy dinner of steak, potatoes, and salad.

He said his favorite cuts of beef were rich, flavorful steaks like ribeye and tomahawk, but he especially loved short ribs, calling them “amazing.”

Meat is a major part of Erling Haaland’s diet. His girlfriend, Isabel Haugseng Johansen, who also plays soccer for Norway, shared that he especially enjoys making brisket tacos in the slow cooker. She jokingly said in a video, “He eats a huge amount! He’s always thinking about the next meal – what to eat and how to make it.”

In the 2022 documentary Haaland: The Big Decision, viewers see Erling Haaland carrying beef heart and liver. He believes many factors contribute to good health, and challenges the idea that meat is generally unhealthy. He points out that what kind of meat matters – the difference between processed fast food and meat from a locally raised, grass-fed cow.

Erling Haaland has some unique pre-game and relaxation routines. Before each home match, he eats lasagna made by his father, Alfie Haaland, a former soccer player, believing it helps him score goals. He also enjoys a cup of hot chocolate before bed and occasionally treats himself to his favorite food – a kebab pizza – though he says he only has it once a year. Despite reports, Haaland denies claims that he eats a massive 6,000 calories daily.

Honestly, he wasn’t even considering that goal as part of his tally! But trust me, the fans will be – everyone’s going to be counting Erling Haaland’s goals when Norway takes on Senegal on June 22nd. Until then, I’ll keep you updated on other incredible soccer talents from around the globe – stay tuned!
