What Rebecca Ferguson Learned from “Scary” On Set Confrontation

Rebecca Ferguson is not letting the past define her.

The actress, known for her role in Dune, recently revisited a past on-set experience where a fellow actor angrily yelled at her. While she hasn’t revealed who it was, she shared how she would approach the situation differently now.

Rebecca explained to Harper’s Bazaar that the issue wasn’t with the other person involved, but with her own inability to address the situation directly. She admitted it was frightening at the time and she didn’t know how to ask for a private conversation. Looking back, she believes she could have pulled the person aside and talked things through.

At 42, Rebecca feels more confident and in control in Hollywood now compared to her experiences in the past.

Some people feel we’ve gone too far with social awareness, but I actually think it’s a positive thing. It’s natural to overcorrect, and now we can work towards finding a middle ground.

Rebecca didn’t reveal the identity of the person who bothered her, and later clarified it wasn’t former co-stars Tom Cruise or Hugh Jackman. After she initially shared the story in 2024, she received a lot of support.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who acted with Rebecca in Hercules, shared a post on X saying he didn’t like seeing the situation unfold, but admired Rebecca for not backing down. He described her as a protective presence on set, calling her his “guardian angel” and expressing his affection for her.

After discussing what happened with the person, Rebecca – who has a 7-year-old daughter with her husband, Rory St. Clair Gainer, and a 19-year-old son, Isac, with her ex, Ludwig Hallberg – realized others had similar negative experiences. She told The Times in October that other people who’d worked with him also had a difficult time.

Even though Rebecca publicly criticized the person, she revealed they hadn’t contacted her, and she doesn’t expect them to now.

She explained that while we often blame bullies, it’s important to remember they’re often dealing with their own insecurities. However, she also pointed out that asserting yourself can be difficult, and you might even lose your job if you do – they could easily replace you with someone else.

In January 2024, Bobby addressed speculation about a disagreement with Tan, following his announcement in November 2023 that he was leaving Queer Eye after eight seasons. (Bobby is pictured second from left.)

He assured Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay. He explained they had a private matter to work through, unrelated to their show, and emphasized it wasn’t a romantic issue—it was a personal disagreement that had been building up.

In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.

Netflix and the production team held extensive auditions. I didn’t recommend my friend for the role, but they ultimately got it because they were the most qualified. I also want to clarify that I didn’t help them get the part by having another actor removed from consideration, as he explained in an Instagram post.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter Kelly Osbourne on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne described actor Danny Masterson – known for his role in “That ’70s Show” – as the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She called him a “rude little boy” and a “dastardly little thing.”

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed upset when he was on The Talk in 2014, after she mispronounced his name.

She remembered him asking, ‘Who are you and what have you accomplished in this field?’ Her response was blunt: ‘Listen, young man, don’t challenge me, because I’ll completely overwhelm you.’ She essentially told him, ‘You have no idea who you’re talking to.’

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris clashed with Brittany Aldean, the wife of country singer Jason Aldean, after Brittany posted a video on Instagram. In the video, she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition genders during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, adding that she enjoys her current feminine lifestyle.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d met, explaining that Bure once turned down her request for a photo on the red carpet. Soon after, Cameron Bure apologized, saying she regretted hurting Siwa’s feelings when she was younger and that she was truly sorry for not taking the picture.

Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in holiday movies, she said it wouldn’t, explaining that the network would continue to focus on traditional marriage.

JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, said on Instagram that the actress’s remark was offensive and damaging to many people.

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art for her band Hole in a promotional photo without giving credit. Olivia responded with a supportive message, saying, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, “Olivia – you’re welcome! My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! DM me for details! I look forward to reading your note [winking face emoji].”

While on Watch What Happens Live, the actor from Happy Days explained why he and the star of Forrest Gump didn’t get along while filming the 1989 movie Turner & Hooch.

I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, called me into his office and told me to pack up and go home, saying I had everything I needed.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along very well. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”

Anyone who watched The Hills likely remembers that famous line from Lauren, spoken at the beginning of season three. The drama between her and Heidi started when Heidi began dating Spencer Pratt. It really exploded when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor about her and Jason Wahler, alleging she’d made a sex tape with him.

Okay, let me fill you in on some behind-the-scenes drama from the Fast & Furious franchise. Things really heated up when Tyrese publicly called out Dwayne Johnson on Instagram. It all started when the release date for Fast & Furious 9 got pushed back, and then, ironically, news dropped about a spin-off movie starring Dwayne and Jason Statham coming out the following year. Honestly, it created a lot of tension! It got so bad that Tyrese actually threatened to leave Fast 9 altogether if Dwayne remained involved. It was a messy situation, and a real example of how personality clashes can impact even the biggest productions.

Tyrese recently discussed the long-standing conflict with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast that he still hasn’t spoken to Johnson directly, though they plan to. He did, however, talk to one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not Johnson himself.

Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations he’d heard from others connected to the film series. He explained he was the one who spoke out, and he takes responsibility for that, saying it wasn’t a professional or appropriate thing to do.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry had a long-running public disagreement, rumored to be the inspiration behind Swift’s song “Bad Blood.” The conflict, which began with issues over a shared backup dancer and competition during concert tours, ended when Perry sent Swift an actual olive branch as a peace offering before Swift’s Reputation Tour began.

Taylor shared a video on Instagram explaining she found a real olive branch in her dressing room, saying it meant a lot to her.

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with Sex and the City forever, and honestly, the rumors about Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker always felt kinda sad. They kept insisting everything was fine, but then Kim decided she wasn’t doing another movie, and things just blew up! She started saying stuff about SJP that… well, it really made you wonder what was actually going on behind the scenes. It was heartbreaking, honestly, because I always loved their dynamic on screen!

During a September 2017 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan they had only been coworkers, not friends.

She was deeply upset, explaining she was just heartbroken. They had talked about it all week, and she found it really disturbing because her memory of what happened was completely different.

It’s upsetting, but I believe what truly connects us is the shared experience we had. It started as a professional project, but over the years, it became deeply personal. I hope that strong connection and those years working on something special will outweigh any recent disagreements. It was a privilege to be a part of something that resonated with so many people.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award at the Q Awards that year, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously told the audience, “Madonna, best live act? That’s ridiculous! Since when is pretending to sing live considered a real performance?” He went on to say he believed performers who lip-sync during paid concerts should face serious consequences.

The actress, formerly on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to not be considered for an Emmy Award. She explained that she didn’t think the storylines she was given were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine Heigl’s departure in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was somewhat hurtful, but not entirely unexpected. “When people show you their true colors, you should believe it,” Rhimes explained. “That’s a lesson I’ve carried with me and it’s always been helpful.”

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week made headlines everywhere. A month later, Cardi publicly explained what caused the conflict with Nicki.

Cardi B recently told W magazine that another person has been repeatedly criticizing her. They had talked twice before and seemed to resolve things, but the criticism continued.

The conflict truly escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had supposedly reacted to a tweet criticizing Cardi’s parenting, though Nicki claims she didn’t actually engage with it.

As a mom, my daughter always comes first. I actually turned down a huge opportunity – a Bruno Mars tour that would have made me millions – because I didn’t want to be away from her. I truly believe I’m a great mom, and it really bothered me when someone without kids criticized my choices. People said a certain event wasn’t the right time or place to connect with another artist, but honestly, you don’t run into people like that every day – especially not while you’re just grocery shopping! I had to seize the moment.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 after Kanye released his song “Famous,” which mentioned Taylor by name.

Just before the Grammys in February 2025, Kanye West began following only Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for the action, and Swift didn’t publicly acknowledge it.

“I don’t know her.”

The supposed rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez has been talked about for over 15 years. It began during an interview where Mariah was asked about other singers. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, she famously said, “I don’t know her.”
