Just like previous popular games from FromSoftware such as Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, Elden Ring Nightreign is getting a major downloadable expansion soon. Called The Forsaken Hollows, this $15 addition will introduce two new bosses for players to fight together, a new in-game event called Shifting Earth, and two new characters to play as.
With the release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree on December 4th approaching, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have given players a closer look at the new Scholar class. While details about the new Nightfarer character are still emerging, what’s been shown so far is likely to impress fans and make the Scholar a popular choice for many teams.
What’s Coming in Elden Ring Nightreign’s Forsaken Hollows DLC?
- Two new Nightfarers: The Scholar and the Undertaker
- Two new Nightlords (Third Day Bosses)
- A new Shifting Earth event
- New Field Bosses, including returning bosses from Dark Souls like Artorias of the Abyss
Elden Ring Nightreign’s Scholar Class Abilities
FromSoftware hasn’t released official details about the Scholar class yet, but the newest trailer for Elden Ring Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollows shows the Nightfarer in gameplay, giving players a lot to guess about its abilities.
- Possible Weapon Proficiency: Thrusting (Cane Sword)
- Possible Passive Ability: Throwable effects may trigger twice
- Possible Active Ability: Debuff that slows enemies
- Possible Ultimate Ability: Enemy link
I just watched the trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and the new character, the Nightfarer, is seriously cool! They’re fighting with a cane sword, but it’s not quite the same one we have in the original Elden Ring. This one has a shiny silver handle, and the way they fight with it is different too – more focused on quick thrusts instead of the usual sword swings. What really caught my eye is that it looks like the cane sword has a built-in dodge! I saw the Nightfarer perfectly backstep away from two attacks, which is amazing.
The trailer shows the Scholar relaxing at Roundtable Hold, then hints at how their abilities work in combat. A white circle appears, and enemies caught inside get a dark, smoky effect. This likely applies a debuff that could slow them down.
The Scholar defeats enemies using a grenade-like weapon that explodes twice, possibly related to a new ability. The trailer ends with the Scholar fighting the Nightlord Libra and his clone army. During this fight, the Scholar uses a powerful ultimate ability that connects enemies, causing damage to all when one is hit. It appears this ability also links the Scholar’s teammates, but it’s currently unknown how this affects gameplay.
How Elden Ring Nightreign’s Scholar Class Could Shake Up Team Dynamics
Image via Bandai Namco While Elden Ring Nightreign features eight different Nightfarer classes, none of them are dedicated support roles. Classes like the Recluse and Revenant use magic or summons, but still focus on directly attacking enemies. However, the Forsaken Hollows’ Scholar seems different, with abilities designed to help teammates – such as slowing enemies or making them easier to defeat as a group.
Best Elden Ring Nightreign Scholar Team-Ups
We’ll have a better idea of who pairs best with the Scholar once the Elden Ring Nightreign DLC comes out next week, but some combinations already seem promising. Nightreign’s Ironeye is a strong addition to any team, and their long-range attacks should complement the Scholar’s ability to connect enemies. Wylder’s quick strikes would also likely work well with this strategy.
