What to Know About Savannah Guthrie’s Family

Savannah Guthrie is dealing with a shocking family mystery.

Authorities reported that Nancy Guthrie, the mother of a news anchor for Today, has been missing since February 1st. She was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. the night before. Investigators are now treating her home as a crime scene as part of the investigation into her disappearance.

During a news conference on February 1st, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that investigators found concerning items at the home and now believe a crime occurred there. “We believe now, after we processed that crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime.”

Nancy “didn’t just walk out of there,” he continued. “She did not leave on her own.” 

The sheriff said Nancy did not have cognitive problems but was “not in good physical health.”

Savannah Guthrie didn’t appear on Today on February 2nd, as her family is concentrating on bringing her mother, Nancy, home safely. Savannah previously honored her mom with surprise birthday messages on the show—a phone call for her 70th in 2012 and a tribute for her 80th in 2022.

Savannah’s family includes her brother, Camron Guthrie, and her sister, Annie Guthrie. Annie recently appeared on NBC’s Today show in November when the program visited Savannah’s hometown in Arizona.

Savannah shared that she’s always proud to say she’s from Tucson, Arizona. She explained that she was raised and educated there, her mother still lives there, and she feels deeply connected to the city, like a part of her will always remain.

I’ve always been fascinated by Dr. Guthrie’s background! She actually started her life in Melbourne, Australia – her dad, Charles Guthrie, was working there when she was born. They didn’t stay long though, moving to Tucson after just two years. It’s amazing to think about where people begin their journeys, isn’t it?

Savannah says her favorite thing about Tucson is spending time with family. She loves going to El Charro, which has been run by the same family for generations, to connect with her mom, Nancy, and sister, Annie.

Savannah Guthrie celebrated her 54th birthday on December 27th surrounded by family. She shared photos with her mother, sister, husband Michael Feldman, and their children, Vale and Charley, writing that she feels grateful for them every day.

Savannah Guthrie was born in Melbourne, Australia, the youngest of three children. Her father, Charles Guthrie, was working there temporarily, and the family later moved to Tucson, Arizona, when she was two years old.

The Today show anchor was sixteen years old when her father, Charles, passed away from a heart attack in 1988. She’s often spoken fondly of him since then, including in 2014 when she was pregnant with her first child with her husband, Mike Feldman.

Savannah described her father as a surprising combination of traits. He was strong and could be intimidating, but also fiercely loyal and surprisingly kind and loving when it mattered most. People often said he had a warm, radiant personality and could instantly brighten any space. He was also tall, affectionate, and had a great sense of humor.

She hoped their child would inherit Mike’s sense of humor, calm nature, and kindness, as well as the honesty and strong moral compass of her own father, who had passed away.

Savannah stayed close to her mother, Nancy, even while pursuing her education at Georgetown Law and building her career in Washington, D.C. and New York. Nancy has lived in Arizona for over 50 years.

Savannah described her mother, Nancy, as an incredible and admirable person when Nancy turned 70 in 2012. She told Today.com that her mom inspires everyone she meets, and is known for being intelligent, humorous, honest, and wise. Nancy also loves having fun and is always eager for new adventures.

In 2015, Savannah took Nancy to Australia, showing her the hospital room at Sandringham where the famous NBC News journalist was born, and their childhood home in Beaumaris.

Nancy shared on Today that she didn’t expect to return to Australia, but the trip turned out to be “wonderful.”

“I’m amazed we managed to accomplish all of this in just three days,” Nancy said. Savannah added, “We really made the most of our time.”

Savannah enjoyed watching her mother with her children, sharing with Hoda Kotb on Today in 2018 that it was a deeply meaningful experience. She realized she was finally seeing the kind of mother her own mom had been with her, appreciating the simple, everyday happiness of that relationship.

She was really impressed with Nancy’s ability to connect with the children. Seeing Nancy’s lively personality and unique qualities made her appreciate her even more than before.

In 2022, when Nancy celebrated her 80th birthday, Savannah honored her mother on television, describing her as brave and full of adventure. She explained that Nancy faced incredible difficulties with strength and without complaint, always maintaining her determination and strong belief. Savannah shared that her mother’s unwavering love, selflessness, and dedication were the foundation for everything her family members have achieved.

Nancy was reported missing on February 1, 2026, after she was last seen at her home in Tucson the previous night.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos announced at a news conference that investigators were examining the 84-year-old woman’s home as a potential crime scene. He stated that while she was mentally sharp, she was physically unwell.

Savannah, speaking on February 2nd, shared a statement saying her family is grateful for the support and well wishes they’ve received. Their priority is bringing Nancy home safely.

She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the investigation and asked anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Savannah’s brother, Camron, is a former military pilot who prefers to keep to himself. However, he appeared in some Instagram photos celebrating his sister’s 50th birthday in 2021.

Savannah shared a heartfelt message on December 27th, expressing her love for her husband, whom she calls her treasure, and her children, whom she affectionately calls her ‘angel babies.’ She also acknowledged those who were with her at the start of her journey – her mother, Cam, and Annie – marking 50 years since a special day.

I’m a big fan, and it’s so sweet to see how close Savannah and Annie are! Annie’s been a supportive presence on Today ever since Savannah became a co-anchor back in 2012, and I’ve loved seeing her pop up on the show to cheer her sister on.

Savannah described her sister, Annie, as essential to her life, saying, “She’s always been there for me, my entire life.” She shared this during a 2017 discussion about the strong connection she and Hoda have with their siblings.

Annie said they were “like the sun and the moon.” 

“Her sorrows are my sorrows,” Annie explained, “and her successes are my successes.”

Savannah described herself as energetic and quick to speak, but she saw Annie as someone who was more considerate and took time to think things through.

After her marriage to Mark Orchard ended in divorce in 2009—following four years together—Savannah found love again with Michael Feldman, who works as a communications consultant.

The couple got married in Tucson on March 15, 2014. Just two days later, Savannah announced she was expecting their first child. Guests at the wedding actually found out about the pregnancy during the celebration that weekend.

She appeared on Today on March 17th and happily shared how good she was feeling, saying she was done trying to hide her stomach.

Savannah and Mike welcomed daughter Vale on Aug. 13, 2014. 

The news anchor described the baby as having blue eyes, a touch of blond hair, and wonderfully chubby cheeks.

Savannah shared on her blog during her pregnancy that she and her husband liked unique baby names, seeing them as a great way to start conversations.

Although many people are curious about unique baby names, Savannah and Mike chose to name their son, born on December 8, 2016, in honor of Savannah’s father, who had passed away.

I was so relieved to hear he was doing well and that Vale immediately took to him! It meant the world to me, especially seeing that just a couple of days after Charles arrived, as I saw on Today. It just filled my heart!

Savannah has spoken openly about the difficulties she faced trying to have another child, and she calls her son, affectionately known as Charley, a “medical miracle.”

In a 2018 interview on Today, Savannah shared her parenting philosophy: she believes the most important thing she can do for her children, Vale and Charley, is to focus on her own personal growth. She explained that at home, there’s no pretense – you are truly yourself, so it’s essential to do the work to become the best version of yourself.
