Oh, what a merry dance the XRP price did on Monday, July 21st! It leaped 3%, touching $3.70, a whisker away from its record high of $3.84 in January 2018. And what sparked this celebratory jig? The ongoing saga of Ripple‘s quest for a US banking license, of course!
Just when you thought the plot couldn’t get any juicier, several major financial institutions, in a moment of unity reminiscent of a school play gone wrong, penned a joint-letter on July 17th. The American Bankers Association, America’s Credit Unions, the Consumer Bankers Association, the Independent Community Bankers of America, and the National Bankers Association 🏦 demanded the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to hit the brakes on Ripple’s application for a federally regulated national trust bank.
The institutions, with the grace of a herd of elephants trying to tiptoe through a china shop, asked the OCC to delay considering Ripple and Circle’s applications until every last detail is disclosed and subjected to public scrutiny. They fear that granting these charters without public comment might accidentally let the cat out of the bag, allowing non-banks access to privileges usually reserved for those heavily regulated 🕵️♂️.
“Granting these Applications could be a radical departure from the norm, and we firmly believe that such a departure requires the public to have their say,” the official statement read, adding, “A little delay won’t hurt anyone, right?”
Ripple and Circle are part of a growing list of crypto-native firms eyeing formal banking charters in the US. Circle, having gone public in May, wants to operate a trust bank to manage USDC reserves and institutional digital asset flows. Ripple, not one to be left behind, applied to oversee stablecoin and custodial services under the name Ripple National Trust Bank. It’s like watching two kids in a candy store, except the candy is a banking license!
At the time of writing, Ripple Labs and its CEO Brad Garlinghouse have yet to respond to this coordinated lobbying effort. But the market seems to have shrugged it off with a yawn. XRP has stayed above $3.50 for two whole days, flirting with the $3.70 mark while daily trading volumes held above $10 billion, according to CoinMarketCap data. It’s as if the market is saying, “Is that all you’ve got?”
Bulls Aim for $4 Breakout: Will XRP Pull Off the Hat Trick?
XRP price is sending bullish vibes as it eyes a clean break above $4. Technical charts show XRP firmly riding the upper Bollinger Band, while maintaining support above the 20-day MA at $3.25. The RSI has been above 72 for the last 48 hours, hinting at strong bullish momentum, but keep an eye out for any signs of exhaustion. We wouldn’t want our bull to run out of steam too soon!

Ripple (XRP) Price Forecast | Tradingview
A breakthrough above the $3.75-$3.80 resistance could trigger a supply squeeze, especially with high short interest on major derivatives platforms. If the bulls keep pushing and volume stays above $10 billion, $4.00 becomes the next target. Can you hear the cash register ringing?
On the flip side, a rejection at $3.75 could send XRP back to test support at $3.22 or $3.05. But unless there’s a major regulatory hiccup, XRP’s setup still looks bullish. It’s like watching a game of chicken between the bulls and bears!
