Daredevil: Born Again and Spider-Man: Brand New Day May Interact After All, But Don’t Get Your Hopes Up
We spoke with Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, about how the second season of *Daredevil: Born Again* might tie into the *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* storyline. The first season of the Disney+ series already included a clear nod to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man following the events of *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, so fans are still anticipating a connection – and hoping to see Daredevil appear in that universe.
Winderbaum shared that things are progressing as planned. Season 2 of *Daredevil* will be released before *Spider-Man*, and as he previously mentioned, there’s a logical flow to the releases. While these shows exist within the same universe, he cautioned against expecting major, overarching storylines connecting them.
Some Marvel fans hoping for big crossovers between the *Daredevil: Born Again* and *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* series might be let down. However, it’s understandable from a production standpoint. *Born Again*’s second season was already in pre-production before most details about *Brand New Day* were even revealed, making significant connections between the two shows difficult to achieve.
Many Marvel fans have expressed disappointment that the movies and Disney+ TV shows aren’t connecting with each other. For instance, the first season of *Daredevil: Born Again* ended with a dramatic situation – Mayor Wilson Fisk imposing martial law in New York City and branding heroes as enemies. However, the recent *Thunderbolts* movie completely ignored this storyline, making no mention of Fisk’s actions or his crackdown on heroes.
It’s highly probable that, similar to how things played out with *Daredevil: Born Again*, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* will also tie into the larger Marvel universe. We already know Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as The Punisher in the *Spider-Man* movie, and it would be strange if he didn’t acknowledge his history with Daredevil or the events of the *Born Again* series. With a full season of *Born Again* and a Punisher special also on the way, Marvel has a lot planned. Fans are hoping all these projects will feel truly connected, as the creative teams have promised.
