Where is The Celebrity Traitors filmed? Inside Ardross Castle

The popular BBC reality show, The Traitors, is currently airing a special edition with celebrity contestants like Jonathan Ross, Sir Stephen Fry, and Cat Burns. It’s already delivered a lot of memorable moments.

This season has already been full of memorable TV moments – from Tom Daley’s amusing reaction to Kate Garraway’s surprise, to a funny mishap involving Celia Imrie, and Alan Carr simply being himself. It’s been a truly epic run so far!

Fans are captivated by more than just the celebrities and exciting challenges on the show; the beautiful castle where the contestants live for a few weeks also plays a big part in its appeal.

The show takes place in a stunning location, featuring everything from an elegant dining room where contestants learn their fate, to a shadowy debate room where tough decisions are made, and beautiful natural scenery like forests and mountains. But exactly where is this all happening?

Read on to learn everything about the filming locations used in BBC One’s The Celebrity Traitors.

Where was The Celebrity Traitors filmed?

The reality show *The Celebrity Traitors* was filmed in the Scottish Highlands. Contestants stayed at Ardross Castle, a historic 19th-century building located 25 miles north of Inverness.

Most of the filming happened inside the castle and on its property, while the challenges were filmed in the surrounding locations.

This beautiful estate, built in the Scottish Baronial style, sits on over 100 acres of grounds beside the River Alness. It was originally built as a hunting lodge for the first Duke of Sutherland.

The McTaggart family currently owns the property, having purchased it in 1983 and since revitalized the gardens and grounds.

Want to feel like you’re in The Traitors? Ardross Castle – the show’s filming location – is available for rent as a high-end retreat or wedding venue. You can learn more on the Ardross Castle website or through RadioTimes Travel’s guide to castle trips in Scotland.

Claudia Winkleman, the show’s host, described the Scottish Highlands as the most beautiful place she’s ever filmed in.

She described it as feeling like being inside a painting – though she admitted that might sound a bit cliché. They had incredible moments, like seeing a double rainbow on the second day, which moved the whole crew to tears. The scenery was breathtaking, with deer, vibrant heather, and old-growth trees surrounding a historic loch, and everyone was constantly taking photos.

I was FaceTiming my kids, trying to describe what I was seeing. It was incredible – I told them they’d never seen anything like it, it felt truly magical! In the first few days, we spotted rainbow after rainbow – actually, three double rainbows by day four! For the first three weeks, we counted around fifty rainbows, and honestly, after a while, it became almost normal. But even then, the scenery was just breathtakingly beautiful.

Can you stay in the castle from The Celebrity Traitors?

Unfortunately, Ardross Castle is not open to the general public.

You can also rent the venue – which has over 30 rooms – for weddings or business events.

Guests can enjoy activities like fly fishing in the River Alness, renting mountain bikes, and taking guided walks around the estate grounds.

Surprisingly, neither the contestants nor the show’s cast stay at the castle itself. Instead, they all spend the night at a nearby hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott, located by the airport.

You can watch the new series, Celebrity Traitors, starting Wednesday, October 8th at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. All three previous seasons of The Traitors are currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
