Who are LELEK? Meet Croatia’s Eurovision 2026 entry

Croatia had a strong showing at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing just behind the winning entry from Switzerland. This was a significant improvement, as they didn’t reach the final round the previous year.

Could the girl group LELEK finally bring a Eurovision win to Croatia this year? Croatia has been trying since 1993, and while Baby Lasagna came close in 2022 with a second-place finish, they’ve never actually won the competition.

LELEK is aiming for a championship run with their uplifting and energetic folk-pop song celebrating women’s strength.

Get ready for LELEK as they prepare to compete in Vienna at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest! Here’s a rundown of everything you should know.

Lelek was selected as one of 24 finalists for Dora 2025, Croatia’s competition to choose its entry for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, performing the song “The Soul of My Soul.” Although they finished in fourth place, they weren’t chosen to represent Croatia at Eurovision.

They won Dora 2026 this year, earning them the right to represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026.

What nationality are LELEK?

The members of LELEK are Croatian and are from Zagreb, Croatia.

What has LELEK said about representing Croatia at Eurovision 2026?

The women of LELEK expressed their excitement that their song, which tells the story of Andromeda, will be heard by a wider audience thanks to Eurovision.

What is Croatia’s Eurovision 2026 song called?

I’m really excited to hear LELEK perform “Andromeda”! They’ve got this amazing sound – it’s like they’re blending traditional Croatian folk music with really modern production, electronic beats, and catchy pop song structures. It’s a unique mix, and I think it’s going to sound fantastic.

The artists explained to ORF that “Andromeda” was inspired by women who get tattoos as a way to reclaim their freedom from enslavement.

“But it’s actually celebrating women and freedom of everyone, and being who you are.”

The Eurovision Song Contest has received a lot of criticism for letting Israel participate this year, given the current war happening in Gaza.

Several countries are choosing not to participate in this year’s contest because the organization in charge, the European Broadcasting Union, decided against banning Israel from competing.

In December 2025, the European Broadcasting Union met and voted to create rules preventing governments or outside groups from unfairly boosting certain songs to sway voting results. They did not vote on whether Israel would be allowed to participate in the competition.

The EBU announced that most of its members decided another vote on whether to participate wasn’t necessary. They confirmed that the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest will go ahead as scheduled, with extra safety measures added.

After that, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland announced they wouldn’t be competing in Eurovision this year.

Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTÉ, has decided not to participate in this year’s competition due to the tragic loss of life and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which continues to endanger civilians.

The BBC, the UK broadcaster of the competition, stated it backs the EBU’s decision. According to a BBC statement, this is about upholding the rules of the competition and ensuring everyone feels welcome.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final will take place on Saturday 16 May 2026.
