Soap operas are increasingly using unconventional, non-linear storytelling to surprise and engage viewers, and Coronation Street is leading the way with these innovative approaches.
This week, we got a preview of some unfortunate events happening in April, where five people who are relatively unknown are predicted to pass away.
Betsy Swain, who has a history of difficulties, was extremely shaken after finding a body on the well-known street. She told police she knew the victim, identifying them as a neighbor.
But who has died, and who might be responsible?
Ahead of the big reveal, here’s TopMob’s guide to what we know so far.
Coronation Street flash-forward murder: 5 potential victims, the suspects and their motives
Megan Walsh

Many people in Weatherfield likely want to see Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) punished for abusing a child. For months, she’s been manipulating and trying to start a relationship with her student, Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson Wale).
Considering this was his first story, it seems likely their secret affair started well before he moved to the Rovers Return in November.
They’ve had a few close calls, but they keep meeting secretly, even though she’s already in a relationship with Daniel Osbourne. To make things even more complicated, she’s pregnant with Will’s child.
During a Christmas argument fueled by jealousy, Will violently assaulted Daniel in an alleyway. Police apprehended him last week, but his grandmother, Maggie (Pauline McLynn), initially lied to protect him by providing a false alibi.
Megan suddenly understood how far her student was willing to go for her, and worried it wouldn’t be long before everyone found out about their secret.
Ben (Aaron McCusker) threatened to harm anyone who bothered his son. Meanwhile, Maggie told Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) that she didn’t realize just how far she’d go to protect the men she loved.
Maggie Driscoll

Speaking of Maggie, she’s certainly made her presence known since moving into the Rovers last year.
She quickly established herself as a truly awful mother-in-law, determined to break up the relationship between Ben and his new girlfriend, Eva.
During the Christmas season, she firmly believed Eva was having an affair with her ex, Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson). She later found out that Eva had previously been pregnant with Ben’s baby, but had an abortion.
Revealing this during Thanksgiving dinner didn’t quite work out as hoped. While Ben was upset she hadn’t told him sooner, he could see why she’d made that choice.
Eva wasn’t the only one with hidden truths. An earlier episode revealed the Driscolls’ past, including how their father, Alan, died. It showed a young Maggie accidentally pushing him down the stairs during an argument, which ultimately caused his death.
I have a feeling it won’t be long before Ben finds out about what his mother did, and honestly, I’m worried. He can be really unpredictable, and I’m concerned he might react badly – even turn on her if he discovers the truth.
Theo Silverton

In the final moments of the show, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) was shown holding a knife after a fight with his abusive partner, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).
For months, Theo has subjected Todd to physical, verbal, and emotional abuse. Most recently, Theo took away all of Todd’s money and cruelly suggested he start saving ‘pocket money’ in a children’s account, mocking the small amounts he’d been given.
Only Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) knew what had happened, but he tragically died in a car crash shortly after learning the shocking news. The accident wouldn’t have occurred if Theo hadn’t gone back into his burning van to check his seatbelt.
Will Todd finally snap in a desperate bid for freedom?
Maybe he clashes with Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), who knows about his awful deed involving Billy, and they end up fighting until one of them dies?
Carl Webster

On Coronation Street, there’s already a group of residents eagerly anticipating the failure of one particular man.
Carl has ruined his brother Kevin’s marriage to Abi, and then made it impossible to have a relationship with Abi himself by having an affair with James.
He falsely accused his ‘sister’ Debbie (Sue Devaney) of causing a fatal car accident. Although he briefly felt guilty, he changed his mind when he learned a shocking truth: Debbie is actually his mother, a secret she’d kept hidden for forty years.
Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) is now spending his time drinking and planning to destroy his stepdaughter’s hotel, the Chariot Square Hotel, and it won’t be long before someone finds out about his plans.
If he is the death, whodunnit? Ronnie? Abi? Kevin? The list is pretty much endless.
Jodie Ramsey

Our fifth and final victim is quite the enigma.
We first encountered Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) hidden in the back of a van belonging to Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), who was surprisingly still alive despite appearing dead.
After running away, she reunited with her long-lost half-sister, Shona Platt, and Shona’s husband, David. They welcomed her into their home, and she has since become attracted to David.
Besides trying to win over her sister’s boyfriend, she’s secretly holding onto a box of interesting keepsakes from her past.
What is she hiding, and could this lead to her death in April?
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
