Since 1993, Channel 4 has offered a different kind of Christmas message, providing an alternative to the Queen’s (or King’s) traditional annual speech.
In the past, the special message has been read by a variety of notable figures, including actor and comedian Stephen Fry, Edward Snowden, who revealed classified information, and, most recently, comedian Chris McCausland.
This year’s message follows a year of extensive coverage of US politics on Channel 4 and other UK news channels.

Who is delivering Channel 4’s Alternative Christmas Message?

This year, Jimmy Kimmel will deliver Channel 4’s yearly Alternative Christmas Message, where he’ll share his thoughts on recent events.
Jimmy Kimmel, famous for hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live!, stopped appearing on television in September after making controversial remarks about the murder of Charlie Kirk. These comments sparked significant public debate and protests across the United States regarding free speech and the role of the press.
Disney, the company behind Jimmy Kimmel Live!, announced the show was temporarily paused because they believed some of the jokes were inappropriate given recent events and could be seen as insensitive.
After careful discussions with Jimmy over the past few days, Disney has decided to bring the show back on Tuesday, as announced in a statement.
Jimmy Kimmel will deliver a lighthearted but pointed Christmas message, joking that 2023 has been a good year “from a fascism perspective.”
