Who Is Quinn in The Boys? Likely Connection to Soldier Boy’s Past & How It Sets Up Jensen Ackles’ Prequel

In Season 5, Episode 4 of The Boys, titled “King of Hell,” a particularly disturbing new character named Quinn (played by Kris Hagen) is introduced. The episode brings several key characters to Fort Harmony, a former Vought facility where the company once conducted the dangerous V-One experiments – including those on Soldier Boy. Though abandoned, the facility still holds some terrifying secrets. Be warned: spoilers follow for this week’s episode.

When Homelander, Soldier Boy, and the members of The Boys all arrive at the facility, chaos quickly erupts. Something feels wrong, causing the group to turn against each other. They soon discover the source: Quinn, a former test subject who was abandoned at Fort Harmony for decades and has mutated into a plant-human hybrid, fused to the walls with spreading vines. His hateful spores are affecting everyone, ultimately leading to Soldier Boy killing him – but the connection between them remains a mystery.

Is Quinn Soldier Boy’s Brother?

We discover Quinn participated in the same Vought experiments as Soldier Boy, but wasn’t successful like him. Considering how few people survived those early trials, it’s remarkable Quinn is even alive. We also learn Quinn was a genuine soldier, with actual combat experience – a stark contrast to Soldier Boy, who grew up privileged. Quinn felt animosity towards Soldier Boy because of his wealth and upbringing, but that’s all the information we have about their relationship.

It’s notable that this revelation about Soldier Boy’s brother appears in the same episode. This brother was a decorated soldier who earned a Silver Star at Anzio, and his jealousy drove him to ask their father for the Compound V trials. This raises the question: could Quinn actually be Soldier Boy’s brother? Homelander mentioning this now feels deliberate, and it aligns with what we already know about their history. However, it’s hinted that Quinn resented him because of his wealth, which seems odd if they were family.

Quinn might simply be another person Vought experimented on. And to address a popular theory, he isn’t Bombsight – we now know Bombsight survived Fort Harmony with V1. While a family connection isn’t necessary, Soldier Boy’s emotional reaction to killing Quinn suggests there’s a deeper story. We’ll likely find out the full truth in Vought Rising, the upcoming prequel set in the 1950s starring Jensen Ackles, and it now seems Quinn will also be featured in that series.

New episodes of The Boys release on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
