Whoopi Goldberg is reprising an important role.
Whoopi Goldberg, known for her role in Sister Act, announced that her grandson, Mason Dean, recently had a daughter. This makes Whoopi a grandmother for the second time!
I was so thrilled to hear some wonderful news from Whoopi! She shared on The View that her family recently welcomed a new baby girl, Lotus Dean, into the world. She weighed in at 6 pounds and 3 ounces, and I couldn’t be happier for her and her family!
Whoopi Goldberg, 70, shared photos of her new grandchild, along with pictures of the baby with her dog Ruby and her youngest grandson, Mason. Mason is the 51-year-old daughter Alex Martin’s son, and Alex was born when Whoopi was just 18, to her first husband, Alvin Martin.
Sunny Hostin loved the photo, saying Mason looked smitten. Whoopi Goldberg jokingly replied that feeling wouldn’t last.
“It’s a wonderful thing,” Whoopi added. “It’s a wonderful thing. This is my second.”
I absolutely loved seeing Ana Navarro congratulate Alex on becoming a grandmother again! It led to the funniest exchange with Whoopi, who jokingly said she only focuses on herself because she never imagined she’d be blessed with two great-grandchildren – and how wonderful it is to be around for it all.
As for what her great-grandkids call her?
The Oscar-winning actress explained that people call her Whoopi because she’s a great-grandmother, not a grandmother. She prefers to simply be called ‘Whoopi’.

When Whoopi Goldberg’s first great-grandchild, Charli Rose, was born in 2014, the baby initially had some difficulty with the name her great-grandmother had picked out. Charli Rose is the daughter of Whoopi’s oldest granddaughter, Amara Skye, who was 36 at the time.
“She couldn’t say her Ws,” Whoopi said, “so I was ‘Oopi’ for the longest time. So we’ll see.”
“But I think this one, she’s ready to get stuff done,” she said of Lotus. “She’s very alert.”
The actress from Ghost was completely surprised and overjoyed when she became a great-grandmother for the first time.
She joked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2014 that she became a grandmother at a relatively young age. She was happily adjusting to being a grandmother when she found out her granddaughter was expecting a baby, and she admitted she had a strong, almost violent reaction to the news.

Although Whoopi Goldberg’s daughter, Alex, eventually accepted becoming a grandmother, it was initially difficult for her. Alex and her husband, Bernard Dean, are parents to Jerzey Dean, who is 29.
Whoopi Goldberg shared that her daughter excitedly announced she was going to be a grandmother, saying it felt like a new chapter in her life after raising her own children. Whoopi jokingly admitted she teased her daughter, whispering, ‘I have no sympathy for you – you made me a grandmother when I was only 33!’
Whoopi playfully said she’s never been a typical grandmother, and she doesn’t plan on being a typical great-grandmother either.
