Why 2 MCU Avengers Members Won’t Be Back in Doomsday — Report

A new rumor explains why two former Avengers won’t be returning in Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel is currently finishing up work on Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The film is expected to be released in just over a year, and a follow-up movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, is planned for December 2027.

Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye, and Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, will not be in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. Both actors have been key members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its beginning, and Marvel hasn’t yet explained why their characters won’t appear in this film.

Why won’t Hawkeye and War Machine be back in Avengers: Doomsday?

Alex Perez, a reporter for The Cosmic Circus, was asked about rumors that Marvel might include Hawkeye or War Machine in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars movies. While he didn’t have definitive information, he did share what he knows about those characters’ current status.

Rhodey is recovering after the events of Secret Invasion, and Marvel is still dealing with the consequences. Clint Barton is retired, and it’s unclear if either of them will return, according to Perez.

It’s still unknown if the new Avengers movie, Doomsday, will address the absence of certain heroes. The film boasts a huge cast, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Letitia Wright as Black Panther, among others. Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
