Why Amanda Seyfried Thinks Winning an Oscar “Isn’t Necessary”

Amanda Seyfried isn’t dreaming about an Academy Award.

The actress from The Housemaid recently explained why winning the award isn’t a major goal for her career.

In a recent interview with The New Yorker published on January 18th, Amanda was asked about past winners. She responded that while winning isn’t the main goal, simply being nominated is a significant boost to one’s career. She clarified that she doesn’t need a nomination right now, but would certainly welcome one, as it would be beneficial in many ways, though not essential.

According to the 40-year-old actor, a long and successful career isn’t accidental. It requires carefully choosing projects – balancing big, commercially successful roles with artistic ones. Ultimately, they see everything they do as a form of art.

Amanda is familiar with being talked about during Oscar season. She was even nominated for an Academy Award in 2021 for her role in the film Mank, and she’s said the nomination felt a bit unexpected.

I really got lucky with that role,” the Mean Girls star explained. “I honestly never imagined I could pull it off. That time period – the 1920s and 30s – feels so different, and people just moved and spoke in a way that’s unfamiliar to me.

She explained that she loved watching classic movies growing up, thanks to her dad’s hobby of collecting old projectors and films – they had a huge collection! But she never imagined herself becoming a classic Hollywood star. It just didn’t seem like a realistic path for her.

Though she didn’t expect the Oscar nod for the David Fincher film, Amanda still accepted the praise.

I recall a Zoom call with David, where he warned me, ‘Don’t expect an awards-season push like the Oscars.’ So, when they actually did decide to support me, I was incredibly thrilled.

As the Oscars approached this year, Amanda acknowledged the Best Actress category was incredibly competitive. However, she wasn’t stressed, because the success of her films, The Housemaid and The Testament of Ann Lee, had already shown her that an Oscar isn’t necessary for her to have a fulfilling career.

Amanda recently told The New Yorker that while The Housemaid was a low-budget thriller that became a major financial success, she approached every creative decision with the same care and artistry as she did with her film Ann Lee.

She explained that she’s found a way to balance her artistic passions with the practical side of her career, and that’s what she wants to continue doing. She plans to work on a variety of projects, both independent films and big studio productions. And, having reached this point in her career without winning an Oscar, she doesn’t feel any pressure to get one now.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw Jason Kelce responding to a fan on Twitter in June 2024! Someone playfully pointed out that he looks like he skips leg day… and foot washing, apparently. His reply? A simple, slightly bewildered, ‘What kind of weirdo washes their feet…?’ It was classic Kelce – funny, self-deprecating, and totally relatable.

The retired Philadelphia Eagles player later doubled down on his comments.

During a recent episode of his podcast, New Heights with his brother Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes jokingly asked, “What kind of person washes someone else’s feet?” He then added that he would only scrub them if they were visibly dirty.

More than ten years after telling a story about witnessing a clown’s death in a car explosion at the circus when he was a child, the actor known for Twilight has confessed that the story was made up.

Robert remembered telling The New York Times Style Magazine in December 2024 that he reacted with complete surprise, saying, ‘What on earth? Are you possessed?’

As for what he said during the 2011 Today interview promoting his film Water for Elephants?

He explained that one of the clowns had died in an accident. Their small car exploded while they were performing, and it was a truly frightening experience. Everyone immediately ran to safety.

Grandma knows best.

In an October 2022 episode of The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian shared a personal story about how her grandmother, Mary Jo “MJ” Campbell, unexpectedly played a role in a private moment with her then-boyfriend, Pete Davidson.

Kim Kardashian told MJ, Kris Jenner, and Khloe Kardashian that she and Pete Davidson were at the Beverly Hills Hotel last weekend. They were chatting by the fireplace for hours, and she remembered something her grandmother had told her: that having sex in front of a fireplace is a way to truly enjoy life. Inspired by that, they decided to act on it as a tribute to Kris.

Grandma’s reaction? A nod of approval.

Kim found it unsettling to think about her grandmother before being intimate, and MJ responded by saying she understood, but she too had been younger once.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have a very close family, including their children, 8-year-old Wyatt and 6-year-old Dimitri, and their love for each other is incredibly strong.

So much so, that the Black Swan actress revealed they keep an open-door policy at home.

She told TopMob News in September 2022 that this also extends to the bathroom. She explained that her family has simply become very comfortable with natural bodily functions, and it’s become a normal part of their lives.

Mila explained that she finally gave in after her family repeatedly asked to come inside. She said she just decided to leave the door open rather than continue trying to keep them out.

Pre-kids, she might not have imagined she’d flush that particular boundary away.

She said she always thought she’d be someone who needed privacy in the bathroom, and she never imagined being comfortable with the door open.

Ghouls just want to have fun.

During an October 2022 episode of The View, the hosts were discussing a woman who claimed her home was haunted by sexual ghosts. This led Sara Haines to pose a surprising question to the panel: “Is it possible to get pregnant from a ghost?”

Luckily, Joy Behar, her co-host, chimed in with a humorous response: “I’ve had encounters with ghosts and never gotten pregnant.”

“I’m going to leave that comment as is,” Whoopi Goldberg responded. “I’m not sure everyone heard what Joy said, but I’m choosing not to address it further.”

Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb are very close friends, but Hoda recently learned something surprising about Jenna. While preparing for their show, Today with Hoda and Jenna, Hoda found out that Jenna never wears underwear.

I was completely caught off guard when Hoda shared this story on Today with Hoda and Jenna! Apparently, we both had to run back to the dressing room before the show, and that’s when she casually mentioned something I never expected – Jenna doesn’t wear underwear! It was such a funny and unexpected moment.

Jenna’s rationale? Well, no underwear might just be more convenient to her.

She explained that the outfit created a nicer shape and was also easier to pack, adding that there were many other benefits too.

Looks like someone hasn’t been keeping up.

Britney Spears related to a line from Keke Palmer’s recent viral moment – “He could be walking down the street, I wouldn’t know a thing” – and confessed she wasn’t familiar with Pete Davidson or Scott Disick.

I just had to share this hilarious video I found from March! It’s of Pete Davidson – when he was dating Kim Kardashian – and Scott Disick, Kourtney’s ex, having a fun night out. Honestly, those two were absolutely cracking me up, I couldn’t stop laughing!

Britney apologized for sharing the video, explaining she didn’t know the people in it, but it had made her laugh a lot.

Before Chris Evans became Captain America and everyone’s dream guy – People magazine even named him Sexiest Man Alive in 2022! – I remember he was just a total heartthrob. I actually went on a few dates with him back then, and let me tell you, he was definitely a cutie!

The singer shared on her podcast, Whine Down with Jana Kramer, that this happened over ten years ago. She doesn’t remember exactly how many dates they went on, but she does remember what happened the last time they saw each other.

Jana, who was around 26 at the time, said Chris asked her to come over when he had some friends visiting from Boston.

Jana recalled that the last thing she remembered was her partner going to the bathroom right after she’d eaten asparagus – which makes your urine smell unusual. They didn’t end up intimate that night. He stayed up late with friends, and the next morning, Jana left his house feeling embarrassed, what she jokingly called the ‘asparagus walk of shame.’

She added, “I never heard from him again.”

Not all of these confessions are amusing.

I was shocked to learn in December that Elisabeth Finch, a writer I’d admired, confessed her story about having a rare bone cancer was fabricated. For years, she’d shared this incredibly personal battle in an ELLE article, and it even touched the storyline on Grey’s Anatomy. It’s just… unbelievable that it wasn’t real. I, like so many others, was led to believe she was fighting such a difficult disease.

Elisabeth recently shared with The Ankler newsletter that a lie she told at age 34 was the biggest regret of her life. She explained that the lie grew over time, becoming a heavy burden she kept hidden. She also clarified that she has never been diagnosed with cancer.

Finch, who was temporarily removed from their role on the ABC medical show before ultimately quitting, admitted, “I messed up badly. It was completely unacceptable, and I take full responsibility.”

Beauty is pain, but Kim Kardashian might be able to stomach it.

The reality star told The New York Times she’d consider almost any procedure to look younger, joking that she was willing to try everything.

She admitted in June that she’d even consider something extreme – like eating something disgusting daily – if it meant she could look younger. She emphasized she was serious, saying, ‘I just might.’

Kim Kardashian told Allure in July 2022 that she was mostly kidding when she made the comment, but admitted it wasn’t a completely awful idea.

Kim admitted, after some thought, that she’d likely do almost anything for youth, even something disgusting. She said she’d probably eat something truly awful if someone promised it would make her look younger, like a daily bowl of something unpleasant.

Asked how much she could eat, she said, “Perhaps just a small bite.” She added that a full bowl would be too much for her.

Jelly Roll could’ve used some saving from himself.

During an April 2025 interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the singer of “Save Me” shared a truly embarrassing story, and didn’t hesitate to tell all the details.

“I pooped myself one time,” he admitted. “I did, I’m sorry.”

To be honest, Jelly Roll (whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord) didn’t intend to cause such serious harm.

He firmly believed it was just a misunderstanding. “I sincerely apologize,” he said. “I saw the audience change from supportive to completely against me.”
