Chris Pratt is deeply committed to making his marriage with Katherine Schwarzenegger last, and he’ll do whatever it takes to ensure their happiness together.
The star of Jurassic World and his wife prepared for their 2019 wedding by attending premarital counseling. The wedding took place at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California.
He shared that their wedding preparations included premarital counseling at St. Monica’s Church. On the February 6th episode of the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast, he described the six sessions with their counselor as ‘the best thing in the world.’
The father of four children—Lyla, 5, Eloise, 3, Ford, 15 months, with Katherine, and Jack, 12, with his ex-wife Anna Faris—recently found himself answering a popular holiday question: when is the right—or wrong—time to begin and end the Christmas season?
Chris explained that he and Katherine, 36, had made a plan for their relationship and wedding. Part of that plan was to start playing Christmas music on November 1st and take the Christmas tree down on December 26th.
We discussed everything ahead of time, so we’re all in agreement now,” she explained. “It’s about avoiding problems and misunderstandings, especially during our first Christmas as a married couple. It’s like identifying potential issues – about 300 of them! – and addressing them before they become bigger. That way, if something does come up, we can talk it through and find a solution together.”

The Marvel star also called premarital counseling a “great gift to give your potential spouse.”
He explained that when you and someone else agree, you can move forward. But if you disagree, it’s important to talk through it and understand each other’s perspectives. He likened a good therapist to someone defusing a bomb – carefully handling sensitive issues without causing conflict. He emphasized that these conversations can easily become emotional, so he highly recommends seeking professional help to navigate them.
Chris and Katherine have openly discussed getting help from professionals before getting married. Previously, Katherine shared that she worked with a step-parenting coach to improve her relationship with Jack after becoming engaged to Chris in 2019.
She shared in a July podcast interview that navigating step-parenting has been really beneficial for her personal growth. She explained that, just like traditional parenting, there’s no clear guide for step-parents. Having experienced both biological and step-parenting, she finds step-parenting particularly challenging because the role doesn’t fit neatly into typical categories like parent, nanny, or assistant. Step-parents often have responsibilities that overlap with all of those roles, but don’t fully embody any one of them.
Chris also agreed, calling the step-parent role “a tough job.”
He explained that every child develops at their own pace, and children of divorce are likely always adjusting to that reality. He also noted that stepparents who put in the effort to provide stability and hold children accountable may not always receive the appreciation they deserve, but it’s incredibly valuable work.
