Why Dax Shephard Says He “Neglected” Kristen Bell on Valentine’s Day

Dax Shepard put fatherhood first on Valentine’s Day.

Dax Shepard, host of the Armchair Expert podcast, shared that he concentrated his Valentine’s Day attention on his daughters, Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 11, with his wife, Kristen Bell. He jokingly suggested that Kristen might have wished for a little more romance this year.

Okay, so you HAVE to know, because I’m still reeling! He was talking on the podcast – seriously, the Feb. 23 Fact Check segment – and he basically admitted he went HUGE for Valentine’s Day for his daughters. He didn’t spill all the details, but he hinted that someone – and I’m guessing it’s his ex – had a way less amazing Valentine’s Day than they were hoping for. I’m obsessed with knowing what happened, honestly! It was so subtle, but so juicy!

And Kristen wasn’t alone, as Dax admitted he also came up short when it came to his mom Laura Labo.

He went on to explain that his mother was visiting. He’s considered his mom his Valentine for the past 51 years, and taking care of his children has meant he hasn’t given her – or his wife, Kristen – the attention they deserve.

He was glad his co-stars understood why he was focusing so much attention on his two significant others, feeling they recognized where his priorities lay.

Dax really made an effort to show his kids he cared, spending several hours creating a special surprise for them.

As a parent, I always try to make things extra special for my kids. My daughter absolutely loves her pool floaties, so I surprised her with some adorable heart-shaped ones! I didn’t stop there, though. I really wanted to show her how much I care, so I spent time creating handmade cards – I actually drew pictures on each one and wrote heartfelt messages. It’s those little personal touches that mean the most, you know?

I’ve always admired Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard’s relationship. She’s been so open about their life together since they got married back in 2013, and recently she shared some really thoughtful insights into how they make things work, even when life gets challenging. It’s inspiring to see how honest she is!

She recently shared on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live that she’s happy with her husband because he’s always striving to improve himself. She doesn’t believe in searching for a ‘perfect’ partner, explaining that both people in a relationship need to adapt and fit together.

In September 2025, Kristen shared a heartwarming look at her family’s close relationship while celebrating Dax’s milestone anniversary of staying sober.

She celebrated 21 years of being sober, sharing that it means a lot of love and connection. “Lots of hugging – everyone and everything, just hugging life!” she wrote. She expressed her deep gratitude to Dax Shepard for his sobriety, saying they are all incredibly thankful to have him in their lives.

The father-daughter duo cuddled during a sweet moment in another snap.
