The popular cooking competition Great British Menu is back, and this season it’s returning to Stratford-upon-Avon for its 21st series.
This show features 32 talented chefs from across the UK and Northern Ireland. They’ll battle it out in eight rounds, creating amazing dishes inspired by British films and their local areas. The ultimate goal? To reach the finale and cook a dish for the judges.
Tom Kerridge and Lorna McNee are back as judges this season, and they’re joined by new judge Phil Wang, who replaces Ed Gamble.
Andi Oliver will guide viewers as the judges search for the UK’s most promising culinary talent.
But why is Ed Gamble no longer on the judging panel? Read on to find out more.
Why did Ed Gamble leave Great British Menu?

Just before its 21st birthday, the BBC revealed that Ed Gamble will be leaving the show and Phil Wang will be taking over as host.
While it’s unclear why Gamble chose to leave the show, the comedian has a lot going on in her personal and professional life beyond filming.
In addition to hosting ‘The Traitors Uncloaked’ and ‘The Celebrity Traitors Uncloaked,’ Gamble will be touring the US and Canada. He’s also well-known as the co-host of the long-running and popular food and comedy podcast, ‘Off Menu’ with James Acaster.
Ed Gamble announced his departure and expressed his confidence in Phil Wang taking over. He said he couldn’t think of a better person for the job, praising Phil’s humor and good company, and noting they share a similar enthusiasm for food. While he’ll miss the team, he joked they’ll quickly forget about him once they start enjoying meals with Phil.
Who is Ed Gamble’s replacement Phil Wang in Great British Menu?

Phil Wang is a comedian and writer, and he recently appeared on the cover of TopMob. He’s part of the comedy group Daphne, and together they created the BBC Radio 4 series, Daphne Sounds Expensive.
Throughout his career as a comedian, Wang has been on several popular TV and radio shows, such as Taskmaster, Would I Lie to You?, Have I Got News For You, and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
He’s also been on Great British Menu as a guest before, so this new job won’t be totally unfamiliar to him.
When Wang became a judge on Great British Menu, he shared his excitement, saying he’s always loved food and is eager to try dishes from the UK’s most talented chefs. He’s looking forward to using his years of experience and finally putting his taste buds to the test!
Great British Menu returns on Tuesday 24 February at 7pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
