Act III is coming—and possibly quite soon.
At least that’s what fans suspect with the latest installment of Beyoncé’s Levi’s campaign.
On August 4th, a video was posted to Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment Instagram account, divided into three segments. The opening scenes depict Beyoncé from previous Levi’s advertisements, where she rides into town on a horse, dismounts at a laundromat, and later serves meals at a diner.
To start the third part, the phrase “The Smoke” appears along with a clock showing “9:04 pm,” just as Beyoncé enters a pool hall, triumphs in a game, and subsequently departs into the night on a motorcycle.
Members of Bey Hive, known for their keen observations, believe that Beyoncé, famous for unexpected releases and hidden clues, might have been hinting at the third and concluding part of her musical trilogy with this recent moment. Additionally, September 4 carries a special meaning for Beyoncé since it is also her 44th birthday.
Did you all see the time just then? Instead of a horse, she rode off on a motorcycle. I wonder if this implies a shift in music genres.” The other user seems to think that could mean Beyoncé has announced her next album will be rock music, with “act III” being the third act or album in her career.
True to Beyoncé’s style, she hasn’t revealed more information and fans have about a month to guess if they are correct. The campaign was launched approximately a week after the “16 Carriages” artist concluded her Cowboy Carter Tour with a celebrity-filled show in Las Vegas on July 26th.
Wrapping up her rodeo project, Beyoncé invited Jay-Z, her Cowboy Carter collaborator Shaboozey, and Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams to join her on stage.
In the year 2022, after unveiling Act I: Renaissance, Beyoncé emphasized that crafting her three-act musical series was vital when the world experienced a significant need for uplifting music.
She stated that her three-part production was filmed across a span of three years, specifically during the pandemic period. She described it as a time for reflection, yet surprisingly, she also found it to be her most productive in terms of creativity.
Ahead of Act III, keep reading to look back on Cowboy Carter’s impact…
In the opening track of “Cowboy Carter,” Beyoncé appears to address her critics directly, seeming to reference the criticism she encountered following her performance at the CMA Awards in 2016.
They often told me I spoke too much like a rural person, and they claimed I wasn’t ‘country enough,'” she sings. “They said I wouldn’t ride a horse, but if that isn’t country, then tell me, what is? For years, I’ve stood firmly on the ground, and they don’t understand how hard I had to struggle for this.
Initially, spectators observed that the Country Music Association (CMA) seemed to remove video of her unexpected performance with The Chicks. Nevertheless, when contacted by TopMob News, the organization clarified that they actually deleted a promotional video instead.
Alongside “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyonce’s song “16 Carriages” was among the two main tracks that were released from her multi-dimensional album. In this ballad, Beyoncé appears to be singing about working hard since a young age and pursuing her dreams. Upon its release, many of her online fans considered it one of her most intimate songs to date.
Sixteen carriages depart, carrying my dreams along with them, as they vanish into the sunset of a sacred evening, on a distant stretch of road; each tear I shed seems to be a part of that journey.
Among her more soothing hits, the song titled “Protector” starts off with none other than her daughter, Rumi, inquiring about a bedtime lullaby.
The artist, who is not only a singer but also the mother of Rumi’s twin brother Sir and their eldest sibling Blue Ivy, ponders her role as a mother. “Destined to be a guardian, yes indeed / Although I understand one day you’ll radiate on your own.
She mentioned, ‘I’ll serve as your screen, yes, indeed / A fruit plucked straight from its source,’ she said. ‘I nourished the earth with water / Now it sustains me, absolutely, certainly (Certainly) / And there you are, hidden beneath all of this / I feel proud to be myself /Because you rely on me.’
A smash success that requires no introduction: The lively tune “Texas Hold ‘Em” stayed at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100, giving Beyoncé her ninth solo number-one hit. It’s also worth mentioning that her song led the Hot Country Songs chart, making the former member of Destiny’s Child the first Black woman to have a number-one country song in Billboard history.
Besides remaking Dolly Parton’s popular song “Jolene” to suit her style, such as changing the lyrics to “Jolene, I’m a woman too / The tricks you play are nothing new / So you don’t want any trouble from me, Jolene,” she also invited Dolly Parton for an interlude that paid homage to another famous character – Becky with the great hair.
Hello Miss Honey B, this is Dolly P speaking. The woman you sing about with that fabulous hair, she reminded me of someone I knew long ago. However, she has stunning auburn locks instead. Oh my, isn’t she just as charming? Despite the difference in hair color, it still brings back memories that feel as raw as ever.
In a firm tone, Beyoncé essentially advised: “However, if you’re not up for this confrontation, then go ahead and make your move on someone else (I’ve made myself clear).
The collaboration with Miley Cyrus, now nominated for a Grammy, is still cherished by fans. The duo’s lyrics about being a “passenger in a shotgun” quickly became popular favorites. Last June, the former Hannah Montana star looked back on the songwriting process, revealing that she had written it years prior to Beyoncé approaching her for the project called Cowboy Carter.
Miley expressed that she told someone, “We don’t need to prove our ‘country’ status; we already are,” as she shared with W Magazine. She added, “‘We’ve always been country. After all, you hailing from Texas and me from Tennessee, a lot of us is going to be reflected in this song.” Writing a song for Beyonce instead of just singing it was a long-cherished dream that came true for her.
As a devoted companion on this journey, I’m right here, ready to take that metaphorical shotgun seat for as long as life endures. With smoke curling from the window, we’ll zip along the 405 highway, and I’ll be your backseat companion, stirring up excitement whenever you desire.
In the concert where the 32-time Grammy award recipient performed, they pointed out a conspicuous oversight from the 2024 Grammys: The fact that they didn’t win the Album of the Year award for their album titled Renaissance.
Indeed, when her husband Jay-Z performed that evening, he felt compelled to point it out right away – an instance she never shies away from bringing attention to.
In A-O-T-Y, I haven’t triumphed yet (Let’s move on) / I’m not boasting about it,” she croons, “Swallow that pride/ Return and mess things up again (Got it).
Her collaboration with Post Malone wasn’t just one of those divine musical pairings (“Boy, I’ll let you be my jeans to wear every day”), but the artist also bared it all in a denim-themed ad campaign for the renowned denim brand that September.
