Why Lisa Kudrow Says She Watches Friends After Matthew Perry’s Death

Lisa Kudrow is remembering her dear friend Matthew Perry.

The actress from Friends, who worked with the late actor throughout the show’s ten seasons, shared that she still watches old episodes as a way to remember and celebrate his life, almost three years after he passed away.

Lisa shared that watching marathons on TV after her brother Matthew’s death brought her comfort. She explained in a March 27 interview with Capital FM that it also made her laugh, as she often saw him featured in the races.

Lisa, 62, shared that while she loves all of her Friends costars—Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc—she always found Matthew, who sadly passed away in 2023 due to the effects of ketamine, particularly hilarious on the show.

Oh my gosh, Lisa totally gets it! She said Matthew was Chandler, like, the absolute funniest person ever. And she wasn’t even sorry for saying it – she meant it! Like, all other funny people just… don’t compare. It’s just true! He was Chandler Bing, and he was perfect.

She also made sure to praise her fellow actors, saying, “Everyone is making me laugh so hard.”

Watching the show is now a hobby for the Feel Good actress. She explained that when she was filming, she rarely had time to even watch an episode.

She remembered not being able to watch every episode while they were filming. With a new baby, none of them had the time. It aired too early – around 8 PM on Thursdays – and it was hard to fit into their schedules.

Reflecting on the show’s impact, Lisa also touched on the show’s importance in a chaotic world.

Lisa shared that, as an actress, she preferred not to take the entertainment industry too seriously. She emphasized how valuable it is to offer viewers a lighthearted escape – something on television that can genuinely make people feel good and laugh.

“It’s just important,” she added, “kind of healing.”

After Matthew Perry’s death, Lisa Kudrow shared a touching discovery: he had left her a note that she found only after he passed away.

Lisa shared on The Drew Barrymore Show in January 2025 that Matthew had given her a cookie jar from the set at the end of their last time working together. She’d recently rediscovered a note he’d hidden inside, which she hadn’t seen before. ‘I hadn’t opened it or looked inside,’ she explained, ‘but he’d put a note in there, and I’d completely forgotten about it.’

Lisa didn’t reveal what the note said, but she thoughtfully remarked, “Timing is everything.”
