Why Sister Wives Fans Are Convinced Janelle Brown Is Leaving the Show

Janelle Brown from Sister Wives acknowledges her family once had a good thing, but she now desires something different.

After nearly three decades of marriage to Kody Brown, which ended three years ago, fans now think Christine might be leaving the family’s reality TV show as well.

In a recent Instagram post, the mother of six children (including Logan, Madison, Hunter, Gabriel, Savannah, and the late Garrison Brown, all shared with Kody) reflected on difficult times in her life. She used to feel like she was falling apart after major changes like leaving the show and ending her marriage. Starting a new chapter later in life, when people expect you to be settled, led her to question herself and wonder if she was the problem.

The reality TV star, currently on her 20th season of the TLC show with Kody, his wife Robyn Brown, and former wives Meri and Christine Brown, explained, “Now that I have some distance, I see things in a new light.”

She explained that those moments weren’t times when things fell apart, but rather times when she let go of things. She released old expectations, outdated versions of herself, and identities that never truly fit who she was.

The recent message before Christmas was another indication that this North Carolina resident is preparing to start a new venture.

Janelle recently shared her thoughts on how easily people can form opinions about you without truly knowing who you are. In a social media post on December 19th, she explained that she used to feel like she was constantly trying to live up to the image others had created of her – someone who was always strong, resilient, and unwavering, even during difficult times.

Janelle reflected that much of her true self hadn’t been revealed through her work. Now, she’s finding peace in sharing her personal feelings and experiences, rather than just playing a character.

Janelle is currently focused on expanding her Taeda Farms business, and she’s working alongside her oldest daughter, Madison.

You know, I’ve always believed life has a funny way of surprising you. I recently shared with my followers that my next chapter is completely different than anything I ever imagined. But honestly? It feels right. It’s like my body and soul finally relaxed and said, ‘Yes, this is what I’ve been needing all along.’ It’s a really powerful feeling when things just… click.

After leaving Kody and moving away from Arizona, Christine realized how overwhelmed she’d been for a long time. She explained that having physical and emotional space allowed her to recognize how much she’d been silently dealing with, without even realizing it.

You know, I’ve always found it so interesting how life works. Sometimes the last place you’d ever expect to find healing—a place you never even considered—ends up being exactly what you need to piece yourself back together. It’s a beautiful reminder that growth can happen in the most unexpected places.

The Sister Wives star had previously hinted to TopMob News that she was ready to sow something new.

Last October, my daughter Maddie, her husband Caleb Brush, and I bought some land in North Carolina. We’re starting to develop it now, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. We’re planning to grow flowers, because they make me so happy.

Janelle has been very open about her life in recent seasons of the show, and fans are wondering what the future holds. Here’s a look at everything she’s shared lately.

Now that her divorce from Kody Brown is final, Janelle Brown shared on the season 20 premiere of Sister Wives that she’s taking a similar approach to Meri Brown.

After 29 years of marriage, Christine Brown wasn’t legally married to Kody. She explained on the show’s premiere that she’d considered ending their relationship spiritually a long time ago, but didn’t know that was even possible. When Meri pursued a legal divorce, Christine realized she could do the same and asked Meri for guidance.

Janelle’s former sister wife—who had previously been released from their church due to being left behind—gladly offered some information. Janelle explained, “She’s been really helpful in connecting me with everyone.”

Madison Brush is still dealing with the fallout from her father’s actions. She revealed on the September 28th episode of the show that she’s still upset about her strained relationship with her dad, Kody, and continues to struggle with their separation. Madison is one of Kody and Janelle’s six children and the second oldest.

The mother of four admitted she hopes her husband’s father will be present, and that she desires a resolution to their issues. She acknowledged her own role in the situation, but expressed frustration as she continues to work on managing her expectations and avoiding disappointment.

I’ve been watching her work through this, and it’s really tough. She’s trying so hard to just accept him as he is, flaws and all. She keeps saying she’s realizing he might not have known how to be there for her, and that maybe he’s dealing with his own pain too. It’s about shifting from feeling hurt to understanding, and she’s really putting in the effort to get there.

He also might not be willing to cede too much ground.

As a longtime follower, it’s heartbreaking to see everything unfold. Kody keeps talking about wanting to repair things with Meri, Janelle, and especially Christine – it’s clear he misses the family unit. But he seems stuck, saying the only way forward, any kind of healing, has to happen if they decide it’s right and on their terms. It feels like he’s realizing he doesn’t have control over the situation anymore.

Robyn Brown, Kody’s last remaining wife, says she always desired a family, not just a relationship with Kody himself. On the September 28th episode of the show, she shared that she’d received marriage proposals before – not always formal proposals with a ring, but several men had told her they’d marry her quickly if she’d have them.

She consistently stated her position: “I told him right away that I was open to a plural marriage.” She added that if Kody hadn’t already been married with three wives, she would have given him the same answer.

Kody explained that, unexpectedly finding themselves in a monogamous relationship, he felt it was now just the two of them, saying, ‘It’s you and me, baby.’

Though he admittedly had one concern.

Kody hinted to Robyn that he desired a more fulfilling intimate life. In a private interview, he explained his view that polygamy offers abundance while monogamy often leaves people wanting more.

Meri is actively dating and has a clear idea of what she wants in a partner. She’s looking for a tall man who enjoys traveling – she’s a big fan of road trips! – and, importantly, loves dogs, as she’s not a fan of cats.

And she definitely needs someone who won’t scare easily.

She described a difficult dating experience, explaining that a man she was talking to ended the conversation when he learned she practiced polygamy. He told her he wasn’t interested in continuing because of her lifestyle, which she found very hurtful. She felt rejected simply for being a polygamist.

Meri explained that it was the first time she truly understood that some people wouldn’t even want to speak with her because of who she was.

Janelle believes she was the only one in her large family who really desired to settle on Coyote Pass.

On the October 3rd episode, Janelle discussed the family’s disagreements about their 14-acre property in Flagstaff, Arizona, which they bought before moving there in 2018. She admitted she wasn’t sure she ever really envisioned the whole family living on Coyote Pass.

Although Kody’s second wife thought living there could work—she said it was a nice property and wondered why not—she believed her ex-husband and his other wives were only temporarily interested in the idea.

She explained that no one was eager to live in that area, especially not Christine. Meri would have agreed to move if everyone else had, too.

Janelle explained that Kody and Robyn’s former property, a two-acre home with five bedrooms that they recently sold for $1.7 million, felt unfinished despite being mostly built.

Janelle explained that despite everyone’s initial excitement about dividing the land into four pieces, she quickly realized it wouldn’t work out after they moved to Flagstaff.

Kody believes he knows why his relationships with most of his adult children (excluding Robyn’s oldest, Dayton, and her daughters Aurora and Breanna) aren’t very good.

He admitted on October 5th that his relationships with his adult children are difficult. He explained that constant teasing and subtle jabs have created problems with trust and loyalty for everyone involved.

And these days, not many of his grown kids are on Team Kody.

Even though Mykelti Padron, one of Christine’s six children, had seemed the most publicly supportive of her father, she shared her thoughts on the family split several months after she, her husband Tony Padron, and their three children moved to North Carolina.

She believes that if he simply took responsibility for his actions, at least some of his children might try to reconnect with him. Instead of constantly blaming his kids, their feelings about his new marriage, or outside influences like gossip, she thinks a sincere apology – something like, ‘I understand I made a mistake. I’m sorry. Can we talk?’ – would make a huge difference, as shared during a fan Q&A on Instagram (@withoutacrystalball) in October 2024.

When Coyote Pass was sold in April 2025, Janelle and Meri finalized their separation from Kody and received money from the sale. Christine had previously given up her share of the land in return for keeping the profits from selling her house in Arizona.

Oh my gosh, did you hear what Janelle said to Meri? It was so savage! She basically told Meri, with a little laugh, that she was saying ‘goodbye forever!’ Like, a super polite ‘I never want to look at you again’ kind of goodbye. I’ve replayed it like a million times, it was perfect.

But she certainly wouldn’t have waved off an even nicer present.

Honestly, if Kody and I had actually been legally married, I would have absolutely expected to receive half of everything he owned – it would have been rightfully mine. That’s just what the law would have supported, and frankly, what I deserved.

Kody and Robyn had to finalize the purchase of their new $2.1 million home before they could give up on their plans for Coyote Pass. After a long process of discussing selling the large property with his former wives, Kody explained on the October 12th episode that they decided to sell Coyote Pass once they found a different house they preferred.

The father of eighteen children is also looking forward to leaving behind painful memories from their old house. He explained, “We’ve gone through a lot of difficult times here, and we’re hoping for a fresh start – a completely new chapter in our lives.”

Kody believed he could love multiple wives, but he admits his attention wasn’t always shared equally. As he explained on the October 19th episode, he found it difficult to fully commit to each of his wives, and felt they didn’t always fully commit to him or to each other as a unified family.

Looking back, I think one of the biggest mistakes he made was giving Robyn such a lavish home – a $1.65 million, five-bedroom place in Flagstaff – when the rest of us wives were living with less. He says he doesn’t understand why things fell apart with Meri, Janelle, and Christine, but honestly, I believe putting Robyn in that house created a lot of resentment. It felt like he was willing to go to any lengths to provide for her, and it was hard for us to accept that, in whatever way it manifested.

Christine found it difficult to relax around Kody. As she explained on the October 26th episode, he was a very demanding husband with many specific needs and preferences, including what he ate and how he maintained his appearance.

Bottom line, she noted, “It was a lot.”

Janelle isn’t eager to jump into another relationship following her breakup with Kody. She admitted to Christine and her husband, David Woolley, that she found Kody demanding and believes relationships, in general, require a lot of effort.

That’s why she’s pushing back against David’s suggestions that she join FarmersOnly. She explained to the cameras, “David just doesn’t understand that I’m not interested in dating right now. I keep telling him, ‘No, no, no!'”

Kody was usually careful about remembering which wife he was talking to. Christine explained in a recent episode that he almost never miscalled anyone. She described how painful it would be to hear another wife’s name in a private moment, and said this thankfully never occurred.

Though there were some close calls.

I often found myself doing that,” Kody confessed. “I definitely have, and I sometimes started arguments only to try and shift the blame.

To hear Christine tell it, she felt quite stabbed in the kidney by her former sister wife.

She told David on the November 2nd episode that she felt deeply betrayed by Robyn, explaining she’d lost all trust in her. She shared that she used to confide in Robyn, but Robyn would then reveal those private conversations to Kody, causing problems and making him angry. Because of this, she stopped sharing anything personal with Robyn.

But Robyn insisted she was just trying to play marriage counselor.

Christine often told me she wished Kody understood what she was going through, saying, ‘I’m really struggling here.’ I was pretty naive and thought I could fix things, but looking back, I should have just let it be.

Meri used to be flattered by the idea that Kody favored her among his ex-wives, but when he tried to chat over video about selling their house in Arizona, she wasn’t interested in being friendly.

He reflected on his conversation with Janelle, recalling that things used to be good with Meri – he specifically remembered happily helping her move to Parowan, Utah. However, he noted that their relationship has become strained and awkward since then.

Meri maintained she was only interested in business matters, especially after hearing Kody’s comments on camera in earlier seasons.

I had to be firm and set clear limits with him,” she said. “It’s frustrating when he acts like everything is okay on these video calls, being friendly as if nothing happened, especially after the hurtful things he’s said about me and my friends. I won’t tolerate that behavior.

I was so thrilled when I heard Christine said yes to David’s proposal last year – they’re perfect together! But it’s a little awkward because her ex-husband apparently thinks he should have been consulted about it. It feels like he’s still trying to have a say in her life, and honestly, it’s a bit much.

Kody explained that his youngest daughter, Truely, lives with David, and he feels he should get to know him better.

In fact, he mused, he “should have had the right, even, to discriminate David.”

Janelle was happy to get her part of Coyote Pass back and wasn’t upset about the money she’d already given Robyn and Kody towards their large house in Arizona.

She explained on the November 2nd episode that her children think she should try to recover the money she invested in Robyn’s house, but she anticipates a difficult legal battle to do so.

She explained that trying to get money from Kody is difficult, because he always has a long list of excuses for why he doesn’t owe it.

Let me tell you, navigating family dynamics and favors can be tricky! Kody felt he’d already squared things with Janelle regarding a past kindness. He explained that Janelle had helped him and Robyn purchase their home, and he believed he’d fully repaid her in January. He even recalls her explicitly telling him around January or February that everything was settled and more than fair – a real sense of closure for him, it seems.

Should Kody still be interested in having his love multiplied, there’s no shortage of options.

He told Robyn on the November 2nd episode that he’d received another email from a woman discussing plural marriage.

He told Robyn that his former wife was upset with his decision to end their plural marriage. Then, surprisingly, she offered to join his family as another wife. He described her as both criticizing his choice and then expressing interest in becoming part of their lives with him and Robyn.

Robyn didn’t immediately dismiss the idea, and later confessed she briefly wondered if it could actually work. She admitted thinking, ‘This is what I’ve always dreamed of,’ and also considered whether the people involved would be a good match.

Ultimately, though, it was a no.

She was upset they contacted Kody directly. She believes it’s generally more respectful to approach a man through his wives, not directly.

Kody admits his relationship with his child is broken, which he calls a family failure, but he needs to make significant changes to improve things.

On the November 9th episode of the show, Janelle revealed that Maddie didn’t tell her father about her fourth pregnancy. Janelle, Kody’s second wife, explained that there was no need to inform him, as Maddie and her father hadn’t spoken in two or three years. She added that he would eventually find out.

Okay, so it wasn’t just about Kody for Janelle, it was about all of us, the whole family. It’s just…wow. Meri said on the show that when Janelle married Kody – three years after she and Meri were already together, and after she’d even been married to Meri’s brother – she actually tried to be considerate of Meri’s feelings! Can you believe it? Meri said Janelle acted like she was trying to include her and not upset her. It’s just…so complicated, and honestly, a little mind-blowing when you really think about it. I’ve rewatched that part of the episode so many times!

Meri admitted that she felt jealous and a mix of other emotions as they navigated the challenges of trying to make plural marriage work. She also said it made her feel valued that her wife was willing to try.

Meri doesn’t back down easily. However, things became complicated when her family agreed to sell Coyote Pass, the 14-acre property they bought after relocating to Arizona.

During the November 16th episode, Meri said the problem seemed to be about making sure the correct people were listed as owners on the properties. She added that she didn’t understand why the paperwork couldn’t have simply been signed and finalized.

She was also puzzled by another of Kody’s moves.

She explained, clearly upset, that he was blaming her for the delays, claiming she was the reason things weren’t moving forward. She said the real issue was their insistence on her signing a confidentiality agreement, which she refused to do. She questioned why they were trying to prevent her from speaking openly about the situation.

To hear Robyn tell it, though, their discussions were nothing to howl about.

“Meri and I have always been able to talk pretty frankly with each other,” she explained. “I was really just trying to find out what she needed and it really, like my intention is always in her best interest.”

Christine says having more money has actually made life easier. As a mother of six, she clearly remembers the stress of not having enough money for even basic things like groceries.

She explained that it’s really awkward when you get to the cash register and discover you’ve spent more money than you have. While you might be able to cover it with a check, it would likely bounce, forcing you to return some items.

Other times they had to walk back plans to pay for certain essentials.

Meri explained that they used to have regular meetings – either weekly or monthly – to decide which bill was the most urgent to pay.

Robyn was determined to ensure everyone received a fair share when it came time to sell Coyote Pass. As she explained on the November 23rd episode, she insisted that she, Kody, Janelle, and Meri each get a quarter of the profits, and she wasn’t afraid to strongly disagree with Kody to make that happen. “I fought him. I had some pretty big fights with him about it,” she said.

You know, as Kody put it, when that property finally sold in April 2025, we all just agreed to try and sort things out as fairly as possible. The main thing was making sure everyone got their rightful 25

Janelle didn’t directly say Kody had a mid-life crisis, but she explained in a recent episode that his behavior changed after he turned a significant age.

By the time Kody turned 50, he was married to his fourth wife, Robyn, and started complaining about the burden of supporting the entire family. Janelle explained that he seemed to believe Robyn was his true soulmate and that managing four wives was simply too much for him.

But Kody took issue with the idea that he didn’t put in the work.

He firmly believed he’d always stepped up for his family and given his all. He confessed he didn’t feel like that effort was reciprocated by the others.

He joked that with three divorces looming, it felt like they were all going through menopause together. He explained that men experience hormonal changes too, and his energy levels probably dropped, making it difficult to stay motivated.

When Janelle Brown’s mother, Sheryl Usher, first found out her daughter was considering plural marriage, she initially tried to intervene. Janelle explained that her mom “came to save me from the polygamists” because she didn’t want her daughter involved in what she saw as a dangerous group. However, in a surprising turn of events, Sheryl herself ended up marrying Kody Brown’s father, Winn Brown – actually, three months before Janelle and Kody tied the knot.

Their marriage definitely added some complexity to the family. Janelle admitted she initially thought it would be difficult to understand, but she accepted it. At first, it felt strange, but she ultimately felt good about having another person to share things with.

Ysabel Brown says she wishes she’d had more one-on-one time with her father, Kody. On a recent episode of the show, she explained that she and her dad aren’t particularly close.

Ysabel explained that her mom is wonderful at being both a mother and a father, and her stepdad, David, is also great.

Despite everything, Ysabel didn’t say her relationship with Kody was broken. “He’s still my dad, and I love him,” she explained.

Though Janelle still feels the family had something special, that spark wasn’t apparent early on.

Janelle felt hurt that her ex-husband didn’t always support her, often siding with others instead, especially early in their relationship. Combined with existing issues of jealousy and insecurity, this created a difficult dynamic for them both.

Oh my gosh, can you even imagine? Janelle was pregnant with Logan so quickly after marrying Kody – less than a year! And Kody was always gone, traveling for work. She’s said herself that he was hardly ever home, and it just broke her down. She basically had to learn to just… survive, keep everything quiet, and in the process, she totally lost herself. It’s so sad to think about how much of her she had to give up just to cope with him being away all the time. It’s just… heartbreaking!
