Sydney Sweeney‘s transformation into her latest role was immaculate.
The actress found playing professional boxer Christy Martin in the biopic, titled simply ‘Christy’, an immensely fulfilling and joyous process rather than anything else.
Sydney shared with TopMob News’ Francesca Amiker prior to the film’s world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 5 that it was an incredibly enjoyable and awe-inspiring experience. They went on to express their feelings of joy, newfound strength, and a connection to the character they portrayed, saying it felt like tapping into Christy’s essence.
As a devoted enthusiast, I found the journey of bulk-up less daunting than anticipated. Fueling my body with an array of nutritious foods was essential to achieving the muscle mass required for professional boxing preparation, and surprisingly, I relished these meals. Moreover, the workouts were gratifying at 27, providing a sense of fulfillment and pushing me closer to my aspirations in the world of boxing.
She expressed that she truly enjoyed it, describing it as thrilling and entertaining. Despite the intensity, she didn’t feel overwhelmed, rather it was an enjoyable experience for her.
This past summer, the actress from “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” provided further details about the procedure she underwent.
She shared with W magazine during an interview in June that she joined the project to portray Christy, and her training period lasted roughly three and a half months. During this time, she began increasing her food intake, spent an hour weight-training every morning, practiced kickboxing for approximately two hours each midday, and then continued with another hour of weight-training in the evening.
While she noted, “I didn’t fit in any of my clothes,” she shared it was well worth it.
“But it was amazing,” she clarified. “I was so strong, like crazy strong.”
She also had to become Christy not just physically, but also mentally, to succeed in the role.
Last year, she shared with Deadline that Christy’s narrative isn’t a simple one; it requires considerable physical and emotional effort, and there’s a heavy burden to bear. However, she enjoys pushing her limits. Christy Martin not only made female boxing credible but also broke through gender stereotypes, battling against emotional, physical, and financial hardships.

Sydney Sweeney displayed her newly dyed hair on the set in North Carolina for an upcoming movie. Known for her role in ‘Euphoria’, she will play the part of boxing icon Christy Martin, a Hall of Famer who was married to her former coach, James Martin, in this as-yet-unnamed project.
In the new role, Sydney opted for a brunette hairstyle that falls to her neck, secured with a navy bandana. She chose a loose-fitting navy zip-up hoodie paired with a yellow-brown T-shirt, dark joggers, and white sneakers.
Later on, the individual aged 27 switched into roomy, full-length, gray athletic shorts that fell just below the knees, paired with a soft, sky-blue t-shirt. On the movie set, they adopted an air reminiscent of the character named Christy.
As a dedicated follower, I’d like to share that my costar in the film, Ben Foster-who plays James-also experienced a significant makeover much like me. The leading man from the movie “Leave No Trace,” known for his beard, arrived on set clean-shaven and sporting a blonde wig. He donned a casual outfit, including a light blue polo shirt and navy sweatpants, and carried a brown duffel bag with him.
From the back, Sydney entered the stage dressed in a new sports outfit. This time, she donned loose, maroon athletic shorts and a jacket with a blue and white stripe, which resembled a windbreaker.
Ben, the father of two kids with actress Laura Prepon from That ’70s Show, switched to a yellow-and-white striped polo and navy sweatpants for his portrayal of James.
Sydney shared with The Los Angeles Times in March 2024 that he is an active collaborator who enjoys sharing ideas, contributing, and finding solutions. He finds it challenging to be on a set without being able to contribute or take action. To him, having a voice and valuable opinion is very important.
For the former star of “The White Lotus”, avoiding a busy agenda isn’t her style. Instead, she eagerly anticipates what lies ahead.
She shared with Women’s Health in 2023 that she admires her older self. When she was ten, she admired the 25-year-old version of herself, and now she looks up to her future 50-year-old self. She aspires to make choices that this older self would be proud of.
