Why Taylor Swift Swapped Her Eras Tour Reputation Look After 100 Shows

Don’t blame Taylor Swift for switching out this Eras Tour look.

The singer shared that the decision to wear a black and gold bodysuit during the Reputation portion of the Eras Tour, more than a year and a half into the tour, wasn’t as carefully planned as some fans believed.

As a stylist, sourcing the right materials is always a challenge! Taylor’s iconic catsuit actually presented a really unique one. Her stylist, Joseph Cassel, shared in her End of an Era docuseries that the original was made from a fabric that was incredibly limited – seriously, it was all there was! So, for subsequent versions – both for the tour and the video – we had to completely recreate the fabric from scratch. It’s amazing how much work goes into making these looks come to life!

Taylor Swift often changed outfits for her different eras, but for Reputation, she stuck with the original red and black bodysuit throughout the entire period.

Taylor and her stylist planned a surprise for fans, and Joseph predicted it would be a huge hit, saying people would be incredibly excited.

While changing clothes was needed because the original outfit was worn out, getting measured for a new one so late in the tour felt like a lot of extra work.

Taylor was frustrated with the outfit, explaining that it didn’t fit properly and would be difficult to wear while being active. She pointed out a specific issue with the bust support being positioned incorrectly, making the overall fit unflattering.

So, when the alterations were made and it fit like a glove, it was a major relief.

I was so relieved when she tried on the outfit before the Miami show and declared, ‘It fits!’ She was really happy with it, and even confirmed, ‘It’s perfect. Nothing is going to pop out,’ which honestly made me breathe a little easier as a fan – you always worry about wardrobe malfunctions!

Although Taylor only needed a new costume for a specific event, many fans speculated it was a hint that she would soon release a re-recorded version of one of her albums when she debuted it in Miami.

After the Eras Tour concluded, Taylor Swift revealed she hadn’t even finished a fourth of her re-recorded Reputation album before buying back the original recordings.

She admitted that, of her first six albums, this was the one she felt was already perfect and didn’t need revisiting. She wasn’t thinking about updating the music, artwork, or videos, which is why she kept delaying a re-release. In a letter to fans, she mentioned that unreleased songs from that album might be shared in the future, if people are interested.

The third episode showed us the work that goes into creating the tour’s costumes, but the fourth episode was more personal. Taylor discussed the emotional challenges of going through two breakups while on tour—first with Joe Alwyn, and later with Matty Healy.

Taylor shared that she experienced two breakups during the first part of her tour. She explained that going through those difficult times made the tour incredibly important to her – it gave her a reason to keep going and helped her cope. While touring can be challenging, she found that it actually provided a sense of purpose and a positive focus when her personal life was tough.

As she put it, “Men will let you down, the Eras Tour never will.”

Taylor’s mom, Andrea, was telling the story about a fan who came to a concert with a friendship bracelet and wanted to meet Taylor. She explained that she immediately asked her cousin Robin, who knows a lot about the Kansas City Chiefs, about this guy, Travis Kelce. Robin said he was a really nice person and very close to his mother, which Andrea took as a good sign.

Taylor admitted she was hesitant to meet an athlete, assuming they wouldn’t have much in common. However, after her recent breakups, her mom persuaded her to try something new. As Taylor recalled to her mother, Andrea, her mom had encouraged her to ‘do something different.’

Now, the rest is history. As Taylor put it, “Greatest surprise of my life.”

Taylor Swift has found support in Travis Kelce, whom she started dating in 2023. Interestingly, a recent episode of her documentary revealed that her mother, Andrea Swift, actually played a key role in bringing them together.

Taylor’s mom, Andrea, was telling her about something she’d seen online. Apparently, a fan came to a show with a friendship bracelet and wanted to meet Taylor. Andrea then asked her cousin Robin, who knows a lot about the Kansas City Chiefs, about this fan, Travis Kelce. Robin said he was a really nice guy and very close to his mother, which Andrea took as a good sign.

Taylor admitted she was hesitant to meet an athlete, assuming they wouldn’t have much in common. However, after her recent breakups, her mom persuaded her to try something new. As Taylor remembered telling her mom Andrea, ‘You basically said I needed to start doing something different.’
