Why Tom Holland and Zendaya Kept Their Wedding So Private

Trying to figure out if Zendaya and Tom Holland are actually married has been a long and winding journey.

But, thanks to Holland, that journey is finally over.

Over three months after Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, hinted that Tom Holland and she were already married, the actor confirmed they secretly tied the knot. This low-key wedding fits with the couple’s known desire to keep their personal life private.

Holland explained to The Hollywood Reporter in 2023 that he and his partner are very private about their relationship. He emphasized that it’s something personal they cherish and don’t feel obligated to share with the public, and it’s separate from their work lives.

Tom Holland and Zendaya first connected while auditioning for the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming. Their on-screen chemistry as Spider-Man and his love interest, MJ, was immediately apparent. While they initially denied being anything more than friends and even dated other people, they were finally seen kissing in public in July 2021, confirming their relationship.

Holland admitted they hadn’t expected to be discovered that way, saying they felt their privacy had been taken from them. Zendaya agreed, describing the situation as “strange, weird, confusing, and invasive.” She explained that falling in love is a personal experience meant to be shared privately between two people.

After appearing together at the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home in December 2021, the pair avoided public events until June 15th, when they were photographed together in Spain while promoting their fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

With so much buzz building around the upcoming big movie, hitting theaters July 31st, and Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, arriving on July 17th, it felt like the perfect moment to address all the questions about my relationship status. I wanted to clear things up and put any speculation to rest!

When asked if anyone besides his grandmother was puzzled by the AI-created wedding photos that went viral, Holland explained to Esquire that wasn’t the case – everyone who mattered had actually been at the wedding.

He added, “That’s all you’ll get on that.” And…scene.

It’s no surprise that Tom Holland and Zendaya’s quiet approach to their relationship has only fueled public interest in them. However, it’s pretty clear why they want to be together for the long haul.

Zendaya explained in a 2018 interview with Cardi B for CR Fashion Book that any good relationship needs respect, politeness, understanding, and patience. She also emphasized the importance of being with someone who can truly make you laugh – to the point where you cry!

And the Euphoria alum appreciates that Holland understands what being an actor entails.

Honestly, it’s SO frustrating trying to explain my life to people who don’t get it. Like, they have no idea what a ‘call time’ even IS! Or why I need hours to get ready – it’s not like I just roll out of bed and poof, I’m camera-ready! People think I just sit around all day, but there’s SO much that goes on behind the scenes, you wouldn’t believe it. It’s my whole world, and it’s hard to explain if you haven’t lived it!

You know, as someone who looks at trends and connections, I’ve noticed something really interesting. Tom Holland recently shared on the Smartless podcast how much he values having a partner – Zendaya, specifically – who understands his world. He actually said she’s ‘worth her weight in gold,’ which is such a beautiful way to put it! It just highlights how incredibly valuable it is to share your profession with someone you love; they truly get it.

He clearly enjoys working with her, describing her to The Hollywood Reporter as “arguably the most talented person I’ve ever met” and simply calling her “amazing.”

He proposed during Christmas of 2024, and they were married sometime before March, when Roach publicly announced that the wedding had already happened.

Zendaya prefers to keep things private and allowed her engagement ring—first seen in February—speak for itself. However, she recently revealed what made her realize Tom Holland was the one for her.

She remembered being very nervous at her first audition with him for Spider-Man, but he immediately put her at ease. Speaking on the April episode of the New York Times’ Modern Love podcast, she explained that his kindness and ability to make her feel comfortable were all it took to calm her nerves.

The 29-year-old shared that they weren’t anxious at all – instead, they felt peaceful and calm. They realized they actually felt more worried when separated from someone than when together, which they took as a positive sign, trusting their gut feeling.

She understands fans feel strongly connected to her and Holland’s relationship, especially since they’ve both been in the public eye for so long and have even played love interests in films together.

She explained that, being a private individual, she values having personal time and space both for herself and her partner.

Zendaya emphasized that she and Holland weren’t trying to be secretive, but rather they were intentionally protecting their private life and happiness, keeping it special for themselves, their family, and close friends.

And they didn’t miss the wedding.

The couple stepped out in style for a late Valentine’s Day celebration in New York City on February 16th.

Zendaya shared this sweet shot of her boyfriend enjoying the water in honor of his birthday.

Tom showed off a new photo on his 27th birthday, playfully captioning it on Instagram, “A gift from me to you—maybe the hottest picture of me ever!” Zendaya responded with a flirty heart-eyes emoji.

Zendaya seemed inspired by her character from the upcoming movie Challengers when she attended the BNP Paribas Open Men’s Final in Indian Wells, California, with Tom Holland and her assistant, Darnell Appling.

The two enjoyed a night out in London.

After Tom’s play, Romeo and Juliet, opened in London, Zendaya was there to support him. They were photographed holding hands as they left the theater.

When Tom launched his new non-alcoholic beer brand, Bero, Zendaya supported him while wearing a matching burgundy outfit.

While visiting Zendaya on the set of her movie, The Drama, in Newbury, Massachusetts, the pair went out for a beer from Bero.

A guy named Tom just shared on Instagram that he’s trying a ‘Bero’ – whatever that is! – for the first time while he’s out with his girlfriend.
