This Saturday, Saturday Night Live is going to be a big event! Ariana Grande, the popular singer and star of Wicked, will host, and music legend Cher will perform. However, the show will also be saying goodbye to another member of the Wicked cast who is leaving SNL mid-season.
Bowen Yang, who plays a role in Wicked, will be leaving Saturday Night Live during the current season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, his last episode will be the Christmas show featuring Ariana Grande. While the news may seem sudden, the show says Yang made the decision himself and they weren’t surprised by the timing.
What Does The Future Hold For Bowen Yang Post-SNL?

Bowen Yang has continued to build a dedicated following with his memorable performances in Wicked and Wicked: For Good. After finishing his time on Saturday Night Live, he’s already lined up several new projects, including a film called Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer’s, My Mother, and Me. This movie is based on a graphic memoir by Sarah Leavitt, which shares her family’s experience with her mother Midge’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The memoir uses powerful black and white illustrations to tell a deeply emotional story about the shock, anger, frustration, and ultimately, the hope they found while navigating the disease.
Andrew Yang is also working on a new animated movie based on The Cat in the Hat. Unlike the previous live-action film, this version will be completely animated and feature Bill Hader (known from SNL) as the voice of the Cat. The movie will also star Yang himself, along with Xochitl Gomez, Tiago Martinez, Quinta Brunson, America Ferrera, Matt Berry, Tituss Burgess, Giancarlo Esposito, and Paula Pell.
Bowen Yang co-hosts the popular podcast Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers. They’re also writing and starring in a new movie for Searchlight Pictures. The film follows two Americans trying to get into the world’s most exclusive nightclub, promising plenty of hilarious moments.
Yang’s final episode of SNL will air Saturday, December 20th, on NBC.
