New fall TV shows are starting, and *Dancing with the Stars* launched its exciting Season 34 this week. The season features a fun cast, including wildlife expert Robert Irwin, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, and Dylan Efron, who’s stepping out from being known as Zac Efron’s brother. This raises the question: could we see a tribute to *High School Musical* this season? One of the *Dancing with the Stars* cast members hinted that it’s a possibility.
The premiere of *Dancing with the Stars* (*DWTS*) featured each new couple performing a dance set to a song that reflected their personalities. Zac Efron and his partner, *DWTS* champion Daniella Karagach, impressed viewers with their performance to Kelis’ “Milkshake.” After the show, Page Six asked if they might include songs from the popular *High School Musical* (*HSM*) films later in the season. Efron, who recently won *The Traitors*, didn’t make any promises, but said:
We can’t give away anything.
It’s certainly not a no, especially with Disney Night around the corner on October 3! But also, it’s not a yes, so we’ll just have to continue to wait and see if we get a Troy Bolton-inspired number. However, considering another DWTS pro, Britt Stewart, was a principal dancer on the Kenny Ortega movies, it kind of feels like the stars are aligning for some kind of High School Musical-inspired dance. She’s not Efron’s partner, though…so…that leaves us continuing to wonder.
Karagach then added that they’re keeping their rehearsal details secret for now, only revealing them when they post about it online or perform the song publicly, stating:
We’re not giving away anything.
That makes sense. A performance to a *High School Musical* song would be more impactful as a surprise. Plus, if it happens, it could support Joey Graziadei’s prediction that Efron and Karagach will win this season, or at least prove they’re strong contenders.
The former contestant on *The Great Global Cleanup* playfully teased the audience, suggesting that *Baywatch* star David Hasselhoff would approve of a possible dance featuring Zac Efron, who often reminisces positively about *High School Musical*. He said:
I’m sure [Zac] would be stoked.

Dylan Efron revealed a funny dream his mom had: it featured Zac Efron competing on ‘Dancing with the Stars’!
This feels like a classic bait-and-switch. It’s similar to when Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens unexpectedly visited the actual East High School in 2022, leading fans to believe they might appear in the new series. Whether people are happy about it or not, let’s hope Dylan Efron’s vague response doesn’t end up meaning nothing at all. Hopefully, something good will come of it!
Those of us who enjoy the work of the Efron brothers, including me, will have to be patient and see if Dylan decides to honor his brother Zac, or even *High School Musical*, with a special performance. While we wait, I’m imagining what songs he might choose – I’d love to see him dance to something like “We’re All in This Together” or “Bet On It!”
You can watch Season 34 of *Dancing with the Stars* on ABC or stream it on Disney+ every Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Hopefully, Dylan Efron will stay focused and maybe even perform a number from *High School Musical*!
