In the newest episode, John (Timothy Spall) and Janie (Gwyneth Keyworth) are arguing. John is shocked to discover that Janie’s mother, Yvonne (Melanie Walters), is now dating his crime-solving partner.
This is just one of the challenges they face during a dramatic six-episode season, which also includes the return of Janie’s long-lost father and a surprising proposal he makes to her.

Will there be a Death Valley season 3?
It’s still unknown if Death Valley will return for a third season, but the BBC is expected to make an announcement about its future in the next few months.
I was absolutely thrilled with how the first season was received! It was a huge hit, becoming BBC Comedy’s biggest launch in five years, and loads of people were also watching it on iPlayer and catch-up, which is fantastic.
While the show saw a slight dip in viewers in May – about 500,000 fewer than last time, according to industry magazine Broadcast – the real measure of its success will be how many people watch it over the next 28 days.
Considering how season two ended, and knowing the feelings of the cast and creator Paul Doolan, it’s likely they’d be interested in continuing the show.
Who could star in a potential Death Valley season 3?
As a big fan of ‘Death Valley,’ I’m really hoping it gets renewed for a third season! If it does, I’m thrilled to hear that Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth are likely to return as the wonderful John Chapel and Janie Mallowan. They were both fantastic in their roles, and I can’t imagine the show without them.
It’s likely that Steffan Rhodri (as DCI Clarke), Alexandria Riley (as Helen Baxter), Rithvik Andugula (as DC Chaudhry), and Melanie Walters (as Yvonne, Janie’s mother) will all return in future episodes.
Death Valley has always attracted well-known actors, with many famous faces appearing in the first two seasons. We anticipate another group of popular TV stars will join the cast for future seasons.

What could happen in a potential Death Valley season 3?
By the end of season 2, John and Janie resolve their problems, which causes Janie to unexpectedly cancel her trip and decide to stay in her hometown.
If the BBC decides to continue the show, this could lead to even more stories being told in a possible third season.
About a year ago, Gwyneth’s long-lost father, Michael (Owen Teale), asked her to move to Portugal for a year. This would have meant leaving her job and, at least for a while, ending her relationship with John.
In the end, she chooses to fully commit to the life she already loves, deciding it’s better than trying to build a future with a father who hadn’t consistently been there for her.

I was so relieved when she told John she wasn’t going anywhere! But then he dropped a bomb – he’s heading to Toronto for two months to work on a Netflix project. Can you believe it? It’s a great opportunity for him, but I’m a little worried about what this means for everything else.
While this brief separation likely won’t alter their relationship much, it opens up possibilities for future episodes in season 3. Janie’s suggestion of visiting him might suggest a problem brewing in Canada that they’ll have to deal with.
However, if John’s career improves with this new job, that could also create problems, as he’ll have to make difficult choices about how to spend his time.
