Horror lovers are captivated by HBO’s new take on the terrifying story set in Derry – the town haunted by Pennywise the Dancing Clown (played by Bill Skarsgård).
The first season of ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ showed us what happened 27 years before the story in the original novel and movie, revealing how the group known as the Losers Club first encountered the frightening creature.
The team making the spin-off hopes to explore the creature’s origins in a possible second season, revealing its motivations and how it ended up stranded on Earth.
Want to know about season 2 of ‘It: Welcome to Derry’? Here’s everything we’ve learned about what’s next for the series, now that the first season has finished airing on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
Will there be an It: Welcome to Derry season 2?

HBO hasn’t announced whether ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ will return for another season or if it’s been cancelled.
The series got off to a good start, becoming HBO Max’s third most popular launch, following only the huge successes of House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.
After its release, the series quickly became popular, racking up 620 million minutes of viewing time across North America in just one week. This made it one of the ten most-streamed shows that week, according to Nielsen.

While it initially generated a lot of excitement, viewership declined over the season, and it eventually fell out of the top ten most-watched shows according to Nielsen ratings.
Because of recent questions about the direction of HBO and Warner Bros., it’s hard to say for sure what will happen with the planned “It: Welcome to Derry” series.
We’ll update this page when more information on the show’s status comes to light.
When could a potential It: Welcome to Derry season 2 be released?
If “It: Welcome to Derry” is picked up for another season, we can probably expect it to arrive in about 18 to 24 months. That’s become a typical timeframe for making big, complex shows like this one.
Okay, so based on what I’m hearing, we’re likely looking at a release sometime between summer and winter of 2027. I’ll definitely keep checking for official news and update you all as soon as I have firm details!
Who could star in a potential It: Welcome to Derry season 2?

If ‘Welcome to Derry’ gets renewed for another season, most of the actors probably won’t return, except for Bill Skarsgård, who plays Pennywise.
It’s hard to picture the future of ‘Welcome to Derry’ without the actor who plays the villain. He’s become so closely associated with the character—originally created by Stephen King—after appearing in two movies and the first season of this new series that it would be a significant change.
Andy Muschietti, one of the creators of the “Welcome to Derry” series, has hinted that a second season might explore the events leading up to the original story. This would involve going back in time to 1935, showing what happened during It’s previous 27-year period of activity.
According to an interview with SFX, the groundwork laid in season 1 will pay off in seasons 2 and 3, finally revealing the answers to key mysteries surrounding ‘It’. They plan to demystify ‘It’ by explaining its motivations and purpose – what it wants and why it’s here – resolving all the previously presented enigmas.
Because the story is jumping back in time, the actors playing the characters will probably change. Some characters haven’t been born yet, and others will need new actors to portray them as younger versions of themselves.
While it’s understandable some fans will miss these characters, this opens the door for Muschietti and the team to create a new group that could be even more captivating.
Is there a trailer for It: Welcome to Derry season 2?
Alas, there’s no new footage to share just yet – we’ll update this page if that changes.
