Windows 11’s Taskbar search box is getting a handy upgrade soon

Microsoft is making Windows 11’s search feature even more useful. Soon, you’ll be able to copy text from anywhere and then click a button in the Taskbar search box to instantly search for it online. This new feature, called “Copy & Search,” simplifies finding information from copied text with just one click.

Microsoft is launching a new feature called Copy & Search that lets you instantly search any text you’ve copied to your clipboard. After copying text in Windows, a small indicator will appear in the search box. Clicking this indicator will automatically paste the copied text into the search field, allowing you to search for it right away.

This new feature is available in the latest preview versions of Windows 11, and should become available to all Windows 11 users over the next few months. It functions with any text you copy, no matter where it comes from – like a Word document, website, or any other app.

After you copy text, the search box will change to say “Search copied text” and display a clipboard icon. Clicking this icon will paste the copied text directly into the search box, allowing you to instantly search the web or view results in the search pane.

Next year, Microsoft is updating the Windows 11 taskbar search box. Instead of the usual Windows Search, it will be powered by Copilot. You’ll still be able to search your computer for apps and files, but Copilot will add even more features and allow you to interact with it directly from the search box.

The new Copy & Search feature and the new Copilot experience are separate. You can still use Copy & Search with the existing Windows Search, if you prefer. It will use Bing for searches, unless you’re in an area where you can choose a different search provider in Windows Search.

What is Windows 11’s new Copy & Search feature?

Copy & Search makes it easier to look up information online. When you copy text, it automatically adds a search button to the Windows search box, letting you quickly paste and search for that text on the web.

When will Copy & Search be available?

Copy & Search is still being tested and isn’t widely available yet. Right now, it’s only for people in the Windows Insider Program, but Microsoft plans to release it to all Windows 11 users in the next few months.
