Since its debut in 2023, has consistently been a top fantasy anime, even earning consideration for anime of the year in 2025 thanks to Studio Madhouse’s stunning animation and its unique spin on familiar fantasy elements. But a new anime adaptation of the popular manga, , is poised to take its place as the leading series in the genre.
I’m absolutely blown away by the new visuals for the anime adaptation of Kamome Shirahama’s manga! Seriously, the colors are so vibrant and the scenes are just gorgeous – it’s a real treat for the eyes. Some people are even saying it might be the most beautiful fantasy anime we’ve seen in years, and honestly, I could see it giving Frieren a run for its money!
Early Screening of Witch Hat Atelier Teases the World With New Visuals

To celebrate the upcoming release of Witch Hat Atelier on April 6th, a preview of the first three episodes was shown in Japan on Sunday. While Bug Films has already shared some exciting trailers and clips, the Japanese news site MOCA was given exclusive access to share screenshots directly from the episodes for anime fans worldwide.
The latest images showcase the main characters, Coco and Qifrey, as well as supporting characters Agott and Alaira. Bug Films continues to deliver beautiful animation that closely matches the art style of the Witch Hat Atelier manga.
The Witch Hat Atelier Manga Already Provided a Foundation of Captivating Art

Witch Hat Atelier is widely considered a visually breathtaking manga. Kamome Shirahama’s illustrations are incredibly detailed and delicate, reflecting the magical world she’s created. She uses this skill to make even basic scenes captivating and brings Coco’s world to life with the same sense of wonder that Coco experiences when learning magic.
Bug Films beautifully captures the spirit of the original story, transforming Shirahama’s whimsical style into something truly special. One standout visual – Coco swinging from vines against a vibrant sunset – feels like a scene from a movie, not a typical anime debut, showcasing the studio’s commitment to preserving the unique appeal of Shirahama’s work.
Witch Hat Atelier has the Potential to Exceed the Standards That Frieren Has Set
Madhouse’s adaptation of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End continues to be exceptional, solidifying its status as a beautifully animated and compelling story. Each episode builds on the original material by adding exciting extended action sequences, unique dialogue, and subtle details that enrich the characters and their world.
Overall, Frieren has really raised the bar for how anime adaptations are done. It’s still too soon to say if the Witch Hat Atelier anime will improve upon Shirahama’s original work, but early looks suggest it will be a visually stunning magical experience – potentially even more impressive than Madhouse’s Frieren, which is saying a lot.
Even just looking at the art and animation, Witch Hat Atelier is incredibly impressive. But when you consider the manga’s intricate story and the thoughtfully designed magic system, it has the potential to surpass Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Each new visual and trailer hints at the captivating magical world the series is building.
