After six years, it looks like World War Z is getting a significant update. The game joins a popular group of zombie survival titles – including franchises like Resident Evil, Dead Rising, and The Last of Us – that explore what happens when society breaks down. There’s a lasting appeal to zombie stories because they reveal a lot about human nature when rules and order disappear. This genre also lends itself well to cooperative gameplay, as seen in games like Left 4 Dead and State of Decay, alongside World War Z itself.
The 2013 film World War Z, starring Brad Pitt, inspired a video game released in 2019, but the game isn’t a straight retelling of either the movie or the original novel – it blends elements of both. While the game shares the same world as the film, Brad Pitt’s character isn’t included. Despite this, the movie license helped boost the game’s popularity, and it has proven to be very successful. It’s a straightforward, four-player zombie survival game that plays similarly to Left 4 Dead, focusing on cooperative level completion.
World War Z May Get a Crossover DLC With The Walking Dead
Despite being released a while ago, World War Z is still being updated. The developers at Saber Interactive recently shared a trailer hinting at an upcoming update featuring a new prison map that closely resembles the one from Season 4 of The Walking Dead. This has sparked rumors about a potential crossover between the two franchises, though nothing official has been announced. While the exact release date of the new downloadable content (DLC) is unknown, it’s likely to be revealed soon, possibly before the end of the year.
There’s more evidence suggesting a connection between The Walking Dead and World War Z. A YouTuber named Tatsuo Matsumoto found potential character models – including Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon – hidden within the files of World War Z in a video uploaded last August. While Matsumoto’s channel is relatively small and the video didn’t get much attention, it’s possible this discovery is legitimate. Interestingly, many fans have been anticipating something like this for some time now.
