Fans of The Apothecary Diaries are eagerly awaiting Season 3, wondering what will happen next with Maomao and Jinshi. The anime, based on Natsu Hyuga’s popular historical novels, finished its second season in July. A sequel was announced shortly after the finale, but details were scarce. Recently, on the series’ second anniversary in October 2025, it was revealed that Season 3 will be split into two parts, with the first part premiering in Fall 2026, likely in early to mid-October.
The second part of the series will arrive in Spring 2027, following a short pause during the winter. Plus, a movie based on the series has been announced, featuring a brand new story from the original author. As excitement builds, TOHO’s official YouTube channel has released an English version of the second season’s opening theme by Lilas. Originally titled Hyakka Ryoran in Japanese, the English version is called In Bloom and is available on YouTube as a collaborative video.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 Will Take a Major Step in Maomao and Jinshi’s Relationship

The first two seasons of the show covered the first four volumes of the original light novel. Season three will start with volume five, following Jinshi and Maomao as they team up to investigate strange events. Throughout season two, Maomao and Jinshi’s relationship began to develop despite facing difficulties. Following Loulan’s success in stopping the Shi Clan’s rebellion, Maomao went back to working at the Verdigris House, where she’s now the apothecary, taking over her father’s role.
Jinshi has begun his official duties as a royal family member, but he’s overwhelmed with handling the fallout from a powerful clan’s collapse. Loulan escapes to start a new life elsewhere, and everyone presumes she died after being shot by Basen. Over the course of Season 2, Jinshi and Loulan grew closer, and Jinshi became more open and outgoing. Season 3 will follow them to the northern farming communities, where significant problems are developing.
I’m so excited! It looks like Jinshi needs Maomao’s help again to figure out what’s going on with these weird events. And the best part? The next movie is going to be a totally new story, which is awesome! It’s currently planned to hit Japanese theaters in December 2026, and while we don’t have international release dates yet, I’m hoping we’ll hear something around the second half of next year. In the meantime, if you’re like me and can’t wait, you can rewatch the first two anime seasons – they’re both available on Crunchyroll and Netflix!
