Audiences are falling in love with Wuthering Heights.
Emerald Fennell, known for directing Saltburn and Promising Young Woman, helmed the latest film version of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. Starring Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, the 2026 release debuted over Valentine’s Day weekend and has received mixed reviews, currently holding a 63% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
According to Deadline, Wuthering Heights is expected to earn between $35 and $40 million domestically over its first four days, landing it at the top of the box office. The film’s success is likely due to two holidays: Valentine’s Day, which brought couples to theaters on Saturday, and President’s Day on Monday.
Although final numbers are still being calculated with Valentine’s Day ticket sales still coming in, the movie is currently predicted to have the highest-grossing opening weekend of any film released in the US this year.
Despite some changes in predictions, Wuthering Heights is expected to earn around $80 million worldwide when it’s released. This would make it the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far, exceeding the $79.5 million earned by Cheburashka 2.
The new film Wuthering Heights is already a success for director Emerald Fennell, becoming her highest-grossing movie ever. It’s predicted to earn more domestically than her previous films, Promising Young Woman (which made $18.8 million worldwide) and Saltburn ($21 million worldwide), combined.
Despite a good opening, the movie still faces a challenge to become profitable. With a reported budget of $80 million, it needs to earn around $200 million worldwide just to break even. Maintaining its current success will be crucial to reaching that goal.
There’s a good chance Wuthering Heights will perform very well, as audiences clearly loved it more than critics did. It received an 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B CinemaScore, making it the second highest-rated film of the weekend, just behind the new animated movie GOAT, which earned an A.
