WWE Just Made History with WrestleMania 43 Announcement (And Fans Aren’t Happy)

During the Triple H era, WWE has made several significant moves, including the iconic event known as WrestleMania. This year’s edition of WrestleMania is particularly noteworthy because it marks the first time WWE will hold the event in the same location consecutively, with Las Vegas being the chosen destination once more following an original scheduling for New Orleans. However, WWE is going a step further in stirring up excitement by making an unprecedented announcement that is likely to spark debate amongst fans.

For the year 2027, WWE unveiled that WrestleMania 43 will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – a historic first as this marks the debut of a WrestleMania event in Riyadh. This is also the inaugural WrestleMania to be held outside North America, although it’s expected this won’t be the only WrestleMania to make its mark internationally.

As a devoted movie buff might express it: “I’m thrilled to announce that we’ve reached a pivotal point in our collaboration with WWE. The news that WrestleMania is part of Riyadh Season 2027 is a monumental step, marking a significant milestone in our journey together. I hold the legacy and global acclaim of this epic event in high regard, cherished by wrestling fans worldwide. Our aim is to take this iconic spectacle to unparalleled heights and create a WrestleMania experience like no other – one that will leave an indelible mark on the world.”

HE Turki Alalshikh and GEA have left a significant mark in the realms of sports and entertainment. They’ve been extraordinary collaborators for WWE, and we eagerly anticipate our future ventures together to elevate WrestleMania 43 to unprecedented levels,” expressed Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, WWE’s Chief Content Officer.

During the presentation, according to Fightful, Triple H emphasized more details about the partnership and event, stating, “Saudi Arabia, during Riyadh Season, hosts grand events and magnificent displays. We believe WWE delivers the biggest events and most spectacular shows. So when we collaborate in 2027, you can anticipate an extraordinary spectacle never witnessed before – a level of competition, athleticism, and stardom that will fill that venue. Yet, a scale of grandeur unlike anything ever seen before.

What This Means for WWE Fans

It’s not hard to guess that this announcement sparked a lot of criticism from wrestling fans, as evidenced by the comments during the announcement on YouTube. Many people were saying “You Sold Out” in the chat at that time, and going to social media didn’t result in much positive feedback either.

It’s true that most WWE events held in Saudi Arabia share similar circumstances, but over the years since the partnership started, the criticism has diminished. There’s a portion of fans who choose not to watch the Crown Jewels or King & Queen of the Rings, and it wasn’t a significant loss because these events typically don’t contribute heavily to the main WWE narratives on Raw and SmackDown.

In simpler terms, during WWE’s context, the significance of WrestleMania is unique because it serves as the culmination of all stories developed throughout the year. Unlike ordinary events scattered along the way, WrestleMania, being the biggest annual event, makes it a more challenging decision to overlook or bypass.

This marks a fresh development in WWE’s association with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, having previously hosted events such as Crown Jewel, Elimination Chamber, King & Queen of the Ring, Night of Champions, and both SmackDown and Raw. The partnership is set to break new ground next year, as the Royal Rumble will be held in Riyadh in January for the first time. Although there was The Greatest Royal Rumble staged in Jeddah in 2018, this is the inaugural occasion that the genuine Royal Rumble event is being organized in Saudi Arabia.

WrestleMania 43 will stream live on the ESPN Streaming App and internationally on Netflix.
