At WrestleMania 41, Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman executed one of the most memorable double-crosses ever, propelling Rollins to the leading role with bigger victories ahead. This trend continued when Rollins brought in Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, ultimately winning the briefcase at Money in the Bank. However, Rollins’ journey towards a title is temporarily halted due to an injury sustained during Saturday Night’s Main Event. In a recent interview with the Rich Eisen Show, Rollins shared updates on his injury, though a precise diagnosis remains uncertain. His absence from the ring will likely be prolonged, but he already has a clear target for his comeback.
In the beginning of the interview, Rollins openly discussed his recent injury during a match, specifically the incident that occurred on Saturday Night’s Main Event broadcasted on NBC and Peacock. “I must admit, I look good on camera, but off-screen, I’m wearing a leg brace and my crutches are nearby,” he stated. “In the match with LA Knight, I injured my knee while performing a move that I usually execute flawlessly – a moonsault, where I flip backward. However, this time, instead of landing on my stomach, I landed on my feet.
Upon my arrival, I experienced a strange sensation in my knee as if it had slightly dislocated and twisted. As a result, we decided to withdraw from the match. By Monday, I found myself in Birmingham, Alabama, where our specialists are based. They examined my knee, but due to swelling, they couldn’t get a clear picture. Therefore, we plan to re-evaluate it within the next week or two here in Los Angeles, hoping to obtain a definitive diagnosis. Once we have that, we can make informed decisions about treatment.
Previously, Rollins has encountered similar situations, though specifics about the extent of his current injury and future course of action remain unclear. However, he seems to understand that he might need some time off. Despite this, he is determined and focused on achieving his objective.
I’m not a medical professional, but based on my own feelings and knowledge of my body, I believe I’ll be out for an extended period. Earlier, we had a conversation off-air, and it’s unfortunate, but we need to keep moving forward. This isn’t the first time I’ve been hurt, and unfortunately, it won’t be the last. But my focus is always on WrestleMania. I hope to make it back for WrestleMania, for the entire season. That’s where my thoughts are, and I feel optimistic about that. However, a precise timeline remains uncertain until we get more information from the MRI.
A Different Place
When queried about his current condition following the recent injury, Rollins compared it to his previous knee injury in 2015 and shared his thoughts. “Well, let me put it this way,” Rollins expressed, “getting injured is never a good thing, regardless of when it happens. There’s no such thing as an ideal moment for this type of setback or the idea that you’re not being utilized much so you can take a break.”
“However, I’ve been through this before,” he added, “I had a severe knee injury on the same leg back in 2015. At that stage in my career, I was still pushing myself hard to reach the pinnacle of success. But now, my mindset is different.
At present, I find myself at the pinnacle. With numerous injuries throughout my career, I’ve learned what it means to take a step back. Yet, I am assured by our squad’s abilities and our team’s unity that they will continue to progress in an exciting manner. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m not needed, but rather, we’re doing well. We’re currently in a favorable position, and upon my return, I’ll be stronger than ever.
When queried about the comparison of this current injury with his past ones, Rollins elaborated on the significant mental difference he’s experiencing now contrasted to 2015, and he’s also discovering potential positives amidst this challenging circumstance.
Rollins explained, “To be honest, I’m not a doctor, so I can’t say for certain, but it seems reminiscent of 2015, as if I were climbing to the top again. In 2015, when I suffered a knee injury and lost my WWE Heavyweight Championship title, it was like hitting rock bottom for me. We were on our way to WrestleMania, and I was looking forward to a big moment that year.
Rollins expressed that although the current situation somewhat resembles a past one, he’s mentally in a different phase, having evolved over the last decade. He’s become more at ease with it and is focusing on discovering the positive aspects. For instance, his daughter is 4.5 years old now, and he anticipates spending quality time with her that might not have been possible otherwise due to a busy schedule. They have international engagements approaching, which would have kept him away, but he feels mentally prepared for this change. He’s optimistic about his physical recovery when they embark on the rehab process. Though he acknowledges there may be challenging weeks ahead, he remains positive and is actively seeking out the silver linings. In essence, he believes everything will work out, and they’re in a good place.
On Raw, Paul Heyman has given Rollins until June next year to use his briefcase, implying a prolonged absence. During this time, attention will likely shift towards Breakker and Reed. It’s uncertain if Rollins will appear on TV in any capacity other than competition. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for Rollins’ swift recovery.
