Xbox Boss Wants to Cut the Cost of Game Pass

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass might become more affordable in the future, according to the new head of the Xbox brand. Asha Sharma recently took over from Phil Spencer, and while she’s still getting settled into her role, newly revealed internal plans suggest she’s aiming for a significant revamp of Game Pass that would benefit players.

According to a recent internal memo reported by The Verge, Xbox head Sarah Bond has acknowledged that the current cost of Game Pass is unsustainable. She indicated that the service will need to change and become more adaptable in the future. While details are still unclear, Bond seems determined to revamp Game Pass, likely in the near future.

According to Sharma, Game Pass is key to getting the most out of Xbox gaming, but the current system needs improvement. Right now, it’s costing players too much for what they get, so Microsoft is working on a better deal. Eventually, they plan to make Game Pass more adaptable, though it will take time and experimentation to get it right.

When Could Xbox Game Pass Prices Change?

If Sharma decides to adjust how much Xbox Game Pass costs, he could do so in the coming months. The main question is whether existing plans will simply become cheaper, or if new, intermediate options will be added. Introducing new tiers might be confusing, though, since Game Pass already has a lot of different levels.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate currently costs $29.99 per month. It used to be cheaper, at $19.99 a month, before a price increase planned for 2025. Xbox also stopped offering annual subscriptions, which were a more cost-effective option. If Microsoft’s Satya Nadella wants to make Game Pass more affordable again, bringing back the yearly subscription could be a good first step.
