Xbox Denies Rumors of “Reversing Course” on Exclusives, Promises More Yearly

Following the announcement that Gears of War: E-Day wouldn’t be released on PlayStation 5, it seemed likely Xbox would continue to keep both that game and inXile Entertainment’s Clockwork Revolution exclusive to its platforms. They’re reinforcing their commitment to keeping these titles only available on Xbox.

Matthew Ball, Xbox’s chief strategy officer, recently clarified something on Twitter. He addressed unusual rumors suggesting Xbox might change its policy of having games exclusive to its consoles.

The rumors about Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution coming to other platforms are untrue. These games will remain exclusive to Xbox and PC, and there are no plans to change that. The speaker also assured fans that they can look forward to more exclusive games every year – a welcome bit of good news despite recent concerns.

It’s unclear how these changes will affect the game studios owned by Xbox. The company appears to be trying to reduce costs, which has led to concerns that studios like Ninja Theory and Compulsion Games could face cuts or restructuring.

We’re hoping things won’t get worse, but we’re preparing for possible difficulties in the next month. This is especially true after hearing rumors that companies like id Software and Bethesda, along with others in the gaming industry, might also be planning layoffs.
