A game originally made for Xbox is now a major success on PlayStation 5, having sold over five million copies. While the game first came out on Xbox and PC four years ago, its recent popularity – it was the second best-selling game in April 2025 – isn’t a shock. The game was already incredibly popular, with over 20 million players on Xbox and PC in its first year, but selling another five million copies so long after its initial release is a significant achievement.
For a long time, Halo and Gears of War were the games most associated with Xbox. That’s no longer the case. Now, the Forza Horizon series is Xbox’s biggest hit, both in terms of sales and critical praise. Forza Horizon 5, released in 2021, has been the most successful Xbox game of this generation, selling incredibly well and receiving high scores – a 92 on Metacritic and three awards at The Game Awards. While it’s not surprising the game has been popular on PlayStation 5, it’s remarkable that it sold over five million copies on that platform in its first year.
A 4/5 Game, According to PS5 Users
Players on PlayStation 5 are clearly enjoying Forza Horizon 5. It has a strong 4.07 out of 5 star rating on the PlayStation Store, based on over 55,000 reviews, and costs $60. This score is very close to that of PlayStation’s own Gran Turismo 7. Interestingly, Forza Horizon 5 has received 10,000 more user reviews than Gran Turismo 7, even though GT7 has sold more copies on PS5. What’s even more notable is that Forza Horizon 5 has a higher rating and more than twice the number of reviews on the PlayStation Store compared to the Xbox Store.
Forza Horizon 6 Imminent
Okay, so I’ve noticed sales of Forza Horizon 5 are probably starting to dip, and it makes sense! Forza Horizon 6 is coming out on PC and Xbox Series X on May 19th, so everyone’s probably holding off. It’s a bit different for us PlayStation 5 players, though. We had to wait four years to even get Horizon 5, but thankfully Horizon 6 is also planned for PS5 this year – they just haven’t announced the exact date yet.
